Paper deals with data on forming of the systems of the secondary concentric membranes in the cells of Lemna minor L.from the Zbruch River under contamination of water by heavy metals. Correlation between the heavy metals content and cells' radius is established, as well as between their content and rate of membranes' duplication. Source

Stress-response and detoxification systems of bivalve mollusk Unio tumidus specimens from reference site after impact of triclosan (500 ng/l), ibuprofen (250 ng/l) and estrone (100 ng/l) and specimens from the site, polluted by the waste water, were compared after the exposure during 14 days. Signs of oxidative stress and genotoxicity in specimens from the polluted site were detected. In all exposed groups of mollusks prooxidative changes occurred. Triclosan and estrone caused increase of lysosomal membranes permeability, and estrone provoked increase of oxyradicals formation. The signs of genotoxicity were not observed only under the action of ibuprofen. Impact of the considered compounds, which are common components of the municipal wastewater, even at nanomolar concentrations modulated physiological and biochemical responses of the mollusk. © 2015 Begell House, Inc.
