Despite the similarities in the design of the different variants, new production operations must be created, developed and simulated for each instance. A series of new ionic liquids based on sterically hindered decyl(tri-tert-butyl)phosphonium (DTBP) or decyl(tricyclohexyl)phosphonium (DCHP) cations were prepared using quaternisation of tri-tert-butyl- or tricyclohexylphosphine with decylbromide and subsequent bromide exchange with the weakly-coordinating anions BF4 -, PF6 -, SO3CF3 -, N(SO2CF 3)2 -. The salts obtained melt below 100 °C and possess a broad electrochemical window. Density functional theory combined with X-ray crystallography, IR and Raman spectroscopy has been used to analyze the molecular and supramolecular structures of the compounds obtained and their possible influence on their physical properties. © 2010 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

In this paper we describe the reactivity of the gold acetylide derivatives [Au(C≡CR)(PPh 3)] (R = Ph, 2-py). Reactions of these complexes with fragments of the type [M(PPh 3) 2] + (M = Au, Ag, Cu) afford a series of novel discrete molecules stabilized not only by interactions with the triple bond but also by the formation of strong metal-gold interactions. The crystal structures of the gold-gold and gold-silver species confirm their similar behavior, while X-ray diffraction establishes a different arrangement for the copper complex with pyridine acetylide as a consequence of the coordination of this metal center to the nitrogen atom of pyridine and to the carbons of the alkyne. The luminescent properties of the complexes were also studied. © 2011 American Chemical Society.

Histamine intolerance is considered to be a diffusely marked disorder with a polysymptomatic manifestation, which appears as a nonimmunologic reaction to the biogenic amine histamine. Patients concerned, mostly female adults, i.e. suffer from gastrointestinal disorders, skin reactions, headache, flush, airway obstruction and arrhythmia. Because of the range of disease patterns and still unverified etiology some authors prefer to use the term histamine intolerance syndrome (HIS). A disbalance between intake and degradation is discussed to be a cause for HIS. Thereby a lack or decreased activity of histamine metabolizing enzymes such as diamine oxidase (DAO) and histamine-N-methyltransferase (HNMT) are assumed to trigger the disease as well as a modified amount and sensibility of the histamine receptors H1, H2, H3 and H4. Stress, hormones and chronical comorbidities can have further promoting influence on the clinical symptoms. To verify the diagnosis histamine intolerance oral challenge tests should be anamnestically included as well as a comprehensive differential diagnosis. Unconsidered comorbidities such as allergies, neurodermatitis, chronic intestinal inflammation, celiac disease or an inappropriate preexisting medication can aggravate the treatment additionally. Because of the lack of verified scientific knowledge of treatment options therapy of histamine intolerance needs to be very personalized. Attentive surveillance of the habits of patients concerning lifestyle and nutrition can help to identify triggers of symptoms. After an initial period of abrosia a permanent change in nutrition seems to be very promising to relieve complaints. Thereby nutritional rearrangements should focus on avoiding food containing or liberating histamine. For a short-term medication H1- or H2-antihistmines except cimetidine can be taken into consideration.

Several household consumer products were analyzed for their content of perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), and fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOH) by nanoflow ultra performance liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry and gas chromatography - mass spectrometry. Among the investigated products, which are applied as sprays, were impregnating agents, cleaning agents, lubricants, and conditioners. In 14 of the 26 products analyzed, at least one polyfluorinated compound (PFC) was detected in 14 samples. 8: 2 FTOH was the dominating PFC with concentrations up to 149 μgmL-1. The maximum concentration of PFOA was 14.5 μgmL-1, whereas PFOS was not detected in any sample. Investigated PFCs were mostly found in impregnating agents and lubricants, but were not detected in cleaning agents and conditioners. In FTOH-containing impregnating agents, similar ratios between 6: 2 FTOH, 8: 2 FTOH, and 10: 2 FTOH were found. FTOH proportions in PFC-containing lubricants were similar as well. Total human exposure to PFC from consumer product aerosols for three different scenarios was estimated to be between 42.8 and 464 ng kg-1 per day. © 2010 Taylor & Francis.

The contemporary rise of 3D methods and techniques brings profit not only for the home entertainment market but also for cartography. These techniques expand the cartographic 'method box', means that 3D is no longer limited to the well-known visualizations showing landform characteristics. The present paper discusses the problems of cognition that occur when reading lenticular-based screen maps. Here, the focus is on an empirical study investigating the efficiency of diagrams. The result of this study is that diagrams, in general, are recommendable features for lenticular-based map design - however, true 3D techniques must be implemented in a differentiated manner in order to achieve a positive impact on cartographic communication.

The synthesis of the intramolecularly coordinated stannylenes and their transition-metal complexes of the type RN(CH 2CMe 2O) 2SnL [1: L = lone pair, R = Me; 2: L = lone pair, R = n-octyl; 5: L =W(CO) 5, R = Me; 6: L = Cr(CO) 5, R = Me; 7: L =W(CO) 5, R = n-octyl; 8: L = Fe(CO) 4, R = Me], and of the tin(IV) compounds RN(CH 2CMe 2O) 2SnBr 2 (9: R = Me), [MeN(CH 2CMe 2O) 2SnBr 2] 2·SnBr 2(OH) 2 (10) and spiro-[RN(CH 2CMe 2O) 2] 2Sn (3: R = Me; 4: R = n-octyl) is reported. The compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, 1H, 13C, 119Sn, and 119Sn magic-angle spinning (5, 6) NMR spectroscopy, electrospray mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The reaction of the stannylene MeN(CH 2CMe 2O) 2Sn with elemental bromine under inert conditions yields the expected oxidative addition product (left). However, in the presence of water, an unprecedented trinuclear tin compound was obtained in which molecular SnBr 2(OH) 2 is trapped by twofold complexation with intramolecularly coordinated tin alkoxide bromide (right). Group technology is a fundamental method in lean production systems, even though it was invented in times of mass production in order to adapt those principles to lower volume production. This paper outlines the impact of group technology on modern production systems. The syntheses of the tin compounds [LSn] 2 (2), spiro-L 2Sn (3), [LSnW(CO) 5] 2 (4), [LSnBr 2] 2 (5), spiro-L 2Sn·SnBr 4 (6)and LSn[OC(O)Ph] 2 (8), where L = MeN(CH 2CMe 2O)[(S)-CH(Me)-(R)-CH(Ph)O], and (Ph 4P) 2SnBr 6 (7) are reported.
