A method of producing chlorine dioxide involves generating chlorine dioxide gas by deforming a container body of a chlorine dioxide generator which is deformable in response to application of a force to the container body from outside of the container body. The deforming of the container body causes an enclosure contained in the cylinder body to be broken to bring an aqueous chlorite solution into contact with a solid acidic composition to generate chlorine dioxide gas that is discharged via a gas discharge port of the container body to outside of the container body. The method additionally involves submerging in water at least the gas discharge port of the container body during the generation of the chlorine dioxide gas to dissolve the chlorine dioxide gas discharged via the gas discharge port in the water.

The present invention provides a chlorine dioxide manufacturing device that can accurately control the amount of chlorine dioxide produced. The present invention provides a chlorine dioxide gas manufacturing device comprising an electrolysis chamber, a liquid surface level measuring chamber, and a bubbling gas feeding device. The electrolysis chamber and the liquid surface level measuring chamber each comprises an electrolytic solution and a gas, wherein the electrolytic solution comprises an aqueous chlorite solution, and the electrolysis chamber and the liquid surface level measuring chamber are joined to each other above each liquid surface via a gas piping and joined to each other below each liquid surface via an electrolytic solution piping so that the height of the electrolytic solutions contained in each chamber are substantially equal. The electrolysis chamber comprises a cathode and an anode, wherein said cathode and anode are fixed to a spacer, the electrolysis chamber comprises a bubbling gas feed section in the electrolytic solution for feeding gas by bubbling to the electrolytic solution in the electrolysis chamber from outside of the electrolysis chamber, wherein the gas feed section is connected via a piping to said bubbling gas feeding device placed outside of the electrolysis chamber, and the liquid surface level measuring chamber comprises a means for measuring the liquid surface level.

A chlorine dioxide generator (10) includes a container body (12) deformable in response to application of a force from the outside. The container body (12) contains therein a solid acidic composition (18) and an aqueous chlorite solution (19) under a non-contact state from each other. The solid acidic composition (18) comprises a porous material containing an acidic substance. The aqueous chlorite solution (19) is sealed within an easily breakable enclosure (20). In operation, when the container body (12) is deformed, the enclosure (20) contained therein is broken to bring the aqueous chlorite solution (19) into contact with the solid acidic composition (18), whereby chlorine dioxide gas is generated. This generated chlorine dioxide gas is discharged via a gas discharge port (14) to the outside of the container body (12).


A method of entrapping chlorine dioxide gas, including the steps of using an aqueous solution containing an alkaline substance and an iodide and bringing air containing the chlorine dioxide gas into contact with the aqueous solution.
