To explore the clinical effect and mechanism of electroacupuncture at Jiaji (EX-B 2) on drug craving of heroin addicts. One hundred and twenty cases of heroin addicts were randomly divided into 4 groups, 30 cases in each. In acupuncture group 1, the Jiaji (EX-B 2) points of T5-T7 and Shenshu (BL 23) were selected with electroacupuncture; in acupuncture group 2, Neiguan (PC 6), Shenmen (HT 7) and Zusanli (ST 36) etc. were selected with electroacupuncture; in simulation group, Zusanli (ST 36) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6) were selected with analog electrical stimulation, and in blank group no any therapy was applied. The changes of drug craving were evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the changes of beta-EP and Dyn-A in plasma before and after treatment were tested by radioimmunoassay. The relapse rate of 77.3% (17/22) in acupuncture group 1 was lower than those of 88.5% (23/26) in acupuncture group 2, 90.5% (19/21) in simulation group and 95.7% (22/23) in blank group (all P < 0.05). At the 8th and 10th week of treatment, the VAS scores in acupuncture group 1 and 2 were much lower than those in blank group and simulation group (all P < 0.01); in which, it was lower in acupuncture group 1 than that in acupuncture group 2 (P < 0.05), and lower in simulation group than that in blank group. After 10 weeks of treatment, compared with the status before treatment, beta-EP and Dyn-A in plasma were increased in acupuncture group 1 and 2 (P < 0.05, P < 0.01), Dyn-A was decreased in both simulation and blank groups (both P < 0. 01) which was less obvious than those in both acupuncture groups (both P < 0.01) and superior in acupuncture group 1 than that in group 2 (P < 0.05). Electroacupuncture at Jiaji (EX-B 2) can suppress the drug craving and reduce the relapse rate, and the mechanism may be related with the content of beta-EP, especially the increase of Dyn-A in plasma.

Background: Chronic liver diseases can interfere with hepatic metabolism of lipoproteins, apolipoproteins. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major etiological agent causing acute and chronic liver diseases. Apolipoprotein M (ApoM) is a high-density lipoprotein (HDL) apolipoprotein and exclusively expressed in the liver parenchyma cells and in the tubular cells of the kidney. This study was to determine the correlation between HBV infection and ApoM expression. Materials and methods. Serum ApoM levels in patients with HBV infection and in healthy individuals were measured by ELISA, ApoM mRNA expression were determined by RT-PCR, and the expression of S and E proteins of HBV, as well as the synthesis of viral DNA were measured by ELISA and real-time PCR. Results: The levels of serum ApoM was significantly elevated in patients as compared to healthy individuals (P < 0.001), ApoM promoter activity, mRNA and protein expression were all stimulated in cells transfected with infectious HBV clone. In addition, ApoM decreases the expression of S and E proteins of HBV and the synthesis of viral DNA. Conclusion: Raised ApoM levels in HBV infection may in turn suppress HBV replication, one of the protective mechanisms of nature. © 2011 Gu et al; licensee BioMed Central Ltd.

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of combining Herbal cakepartitioned moxibustion with plum-blossom needle therapy for cervical radiculopathy. Methods: A total of 150 cases with cervical radiculopathy were randomly allocated into a treatment group (n=90) and a control group (n=60) at ratio of 3:2. Cases in the treatment group were treated with combining herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion with plum-blossom needle therapy, whereas cases in the control group were treated with combining Dan Shen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae) injection with traction. The therapeutic efficacies were evaluated by the third party after three courses of treatments. Results: The recovery and total effective rates in the treatment group were 51.1% and 97.8% respectively, versus 18.3% and 78.3% in the control group, showing statistically significant differences (both P<0.05). And there was a between-group statistical difference in the number of recovery cases in different courses of treatments (P<0.05). Conclusion: Combining herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion with plum-blossom needle therapy was more effective than combining Dan Shen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae) injection with traction for cervical radiculopathy, and it took effect more quickly. Objective: To observe the clinical effects of the surrounding acupuncture for herpes zoster. Methods: Sixty patients with herpes zoster were randomly divided into two groups, a treatment group and a control group, 30 cases in each. The cases in the treatment group were treated with surrounding acupuncture, intravenous infusion of Acyclovir and Ne-Ne laser radiation on the macular areas. While, those in the control group were treated with intravenous infusion of Acyclovir and topical application of Acyclovir ointment. The therapeutic effects were assessed in both groups after two courses of treatment. Results: The treatment group was obviously better than the control group in the effective rate, relief of blister, drying up of blister, relief of pain and time of complete relief of pain (P<0.05). Conclusion: Surrounding acupuncture, combined with intravenous infusion of Acyclovir and He-Ne laser radiation, is remarkable in the therapeutic effects for herpes zoster and worthy of clinical application. © 2013 Shanghai Research Institute of Acupuncture and Meridian and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

To study the effect and function of P16 protein during the development of lung cancer, in order to explore the differences of expression of P16 protein in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) between Xuanwei and Kunming district. 45 patients with NSCLC from Xuanwei and 45 patients from Kunming,18 patients from pneumatocele who underwent radical resection were collected. Immunohistochemical staining were used to analyze the expressions of P16 protein in paraffin-embedded tissues from these 90 residing patients with lung cancer. 45 cases with lung cancer were negative for P16 protein expression, total loss expression rates were 41.7% (45/108). Loss expression rates of Xuanwei,Kunming and pneumatocele were 57.8% (26/45), 37.8% (17/45), 11.1% (2/18), respectively. In comparition the loss expression of P16 protein in clinicopathologic characteristics between the two groups, there were some statistically significant differences in the loss expression rate of P16 (P < 0.05): the loss expression rate of P16 in cases with stage I, adenocarcinoma and stage T2 in Xuanwei were more higher than those in Kunming; the loss expression rates of P16 in Xuanwei and Kungming were more higher than those in pneumatocele respectively. Loss expression rates of P16 protein in the early stage and adenocarcinoma in Xuanwei lung cancer group were significant difference compared with in Kunming lung cancer group.
