Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of most predominant heat-treatment parameters on the wear behavior of Al6061 hybrid composite reinforced with 10 weight per cent SiC and 2 weight per cent graphite particles. Design/methodology/approach - The aluminum hybrid composite was produced using stir casting process. Wear testing of heat-treated samples was carried out using a pin-on-disc apparatus. Experiments were conducted by applying design of experiments (DOE) technique. The experimental values were used for formulation of a mathematical model. The wear surfaces of composite specimens were analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Findings - The volume loss of heat-treated composite initially decreased with increasing aging duration. This was followed by the attainment of a minimum and then a reversal in the trend at longer aging times. SEM micrographs of the wear surfaces of the composite show that the wear mechanisms were abrasion, delamination and adhesion. Originality/value - In this paper, the hybrid composite was produced using stir casting route, and its wear properties after heat treatment were tested using pin-on-disc apparatus. This paper presents an approach to combat ISI in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and thereby channel estimation technique. OFDM technique offers high data rate. Channel Estimation techniques have been successfully applied to the basic OFDM systems to obtain a remark ableenhancement. Channel estimation is a difficult task in fading environment. This paper analyzes the degradation effect of comb type subcarriers in OFDM systems in the Gaussian channel based on the estimation performance. The effects of Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) and Inter Channel Interference (ICI) are reduced by the splitting process. This splitting process also decreases the rate of stream of data connected with distinct subcarriers. In this paper OFDM is implemented using Lab view based on channel estimation techniques. The work starts with basic architecture of OFDM and their implementation using QAM followed by channel estimation techniques of OFDM using MATLAB and finally concluded the importance of estimation based on the performance achieved using Lab view. It is concluded that the BER analysis shows approximately same results when compared in the simulators. © Research India Publications.

Channel estimation plays a very important role in any wireless communication system. Currently many related algorithms are a research hotpot. Basically channel estimation are classified into two types namely, pilot-based channel estimation and blind channel estimation. Pilot-based channel estimation estimates the channel information by obtaining the impulse response from all sub-carriers of pilot. The blind channel estimation uses statistical information of the received signals whereas pilot-based channel estimation is a practical and an effective method. This paper presents a pilot-based channel estimation of OFDM system and analyzes the degradation effect of pilot subcarriers in OFDM systems on the time-domain based on the estimation performance. The effects of Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) are reduced by the splitting process. This splitting process also decreases the rate of stream of data connected with distinct subcarriers. The paper starts with basic realization principle of OFDM system and analyzes OFDM in the frequency domain using spectral analysis method. The simulation results are shown using Matlab which compares the bit error rate (BER) performance of different modulation schemes and types of pilot and finally concluded the importance of estimation based on the achieved results based on IEEE802.11a. © 2006-2015 Asian Research Publishing Network (ARPN).
