The features of silicon carbide and zirconium grains are introduced briefly when used in coated belts. Key technical parameters such as cloth backing and strewing density are studied, as well as the requirements on sanding belts for calibrating medium density fiberboard (MDF) and high density fiberboard (HDF). Two kinds of sanding belts, separately made of silicon carbide and zirconium grains, are produced with optimized parameters. Comparative tests on their grinding performance are made both in laboratory and on customer site. Results show that the belt with zirconium grain has higher efficiency and longer life, as well as better sanding quality when calibrating MDF and HDF than those of belt with silicon carbide grain.

This thesis briefly introduces the features and information details of the treatment for polyester cloth backing. The quality problems in the treatment are discussed, such as over elongation, wavy edge, curve weft, contaminant material, big particle etc, which have effect on the quality of coated abrasive products. Using the help of some measurement and methods, the external and inner quality of polyester cloth backing can be improved. The results showed that the quality of coated abrasive belts is significantly improved to meet the customer needs on the stable and quality-improved polyester cloth backing.

Main contents of the national standard, GB/T 23537 - 2009 "Superabrasives-Limit deviations and run-out tolerances for grinding wheels and mounted points with diamond or cubic boron nitride", are introduced as well as its differences compared with ISO 22917 - 2004 "Superabrasives-Limit deviations and run-out tolerances for grinding wheels with diamond or cubic boron nitride" and JB/T 7425 - 1994 "Superabrasives-Technical conditions". GB/T 23537-2009 standard is consistent with ISO 22917 -2004 for the main contents, while some of its contents are further refined according to the actual situation to make it more operational, and to facilitate the implementation of the standard.

According to the features and current situation of waste heat utilization of the waste gas from the incinerators in the coated abrasives manufacturing plants, a new method is developed by adding another heat exchanger of waste gas and a heat exchanger of thermal conducting oil, thus incorporate the heat conducting oil system into the waste gas burning system. The oil would absorb the remaining heat to cure the coated abrasives. This is a complete project to save the energy and experiments are implemented to test and verify the feasibility of this project. By using this project, we can get two benefits: one is harmless discharge of the waste gas, the other is saving the consumption of natural gas by 28%. In this case the enterprise will increase the core-competence and also save the cost of energy.

The direct flame combustion to treat organic waste gas in coated abrasives manufacturing process is introduced. The features of the various methods in this field both in China and abroad, such as adsorption, sticking, biological method, oxidation method, are analyzed and compared with the new direct flame combustion treatment method on their economic features. Results show that the flame combustion method has advantages of small investment, simple operation and stability, which is completely clean-up, and very suitable for treating organic waste gas in coated abrasives manufacture. The direct flame combustion treatment method shows its superiority of better environment protection and easy recovery of the heat of organic waste gas. It can achieve the complete utilization of energy and enhance the economic benefits of the enterprises in coated abrasives manufacturing.
