Orthopedic surgical simulators are used by the trainee surgeons to drill the bones and place the screws. These simulators use PMDC motors for bone drilling. In this paper a closed loop chopper controlled drive is proposed and evaluated. The chopper controlled drive has an inner current control loop and an outer speed control loop. The outer control loop employs a conventional PI controller for the speed control of the PMDC motor. The anti-windup PI controller based system is proposed in order to enhance the performance of the system. The system is simulated using Matlab / Simulink and the performances of various anti-windup schemes are analysed. The properties of these controllers were measured and tabulated. The simulation results inferred that the proposed closed loop system with tracking anti-windup schemes can be used for the effective control of the PMDC motor in orthopedic surgeries.

This article proposes an extended reference signal generation scheme for the integration of a three-phase four-wire unified power quality conditioner in a grid-connected photovoltaic system. The photovoltaic-unified power quality conditioner provides compensation against voltage harmonics, current harmonics, and voltage interruption for the whole day. It also transmits the power generated in the photovoltaic system to the load. The proposed topology utilizes the green energy source with an energy storage unit to address the DC-link voltage requirement of the shunt and series active power filters of the unified power quality conditioner. The high-selectivity filter is used in the shunt inverter control scheme for reference current generations. The series inverter in the unified power quality conditioner is used for supplying a part of reactive power required by the load and for compensation of sag/swell, supply voltage unbalance, and distortions. This is achieved by controlling the phase angle and magnitude of series-injected voltage called the power angle control method. The simulation and experimental studies are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed photovoltaic-based three-phase four-wire unified power quality conditioner. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.


A series of ruthenium(III) complexes [RuX(EPh3)2L] (where X = Cl or Br; E = P or As; L = deprotonated dibasic tridentate ligand) were prepared by the reaction of [RuX3(EPh3)3] with Schiff bases (H2L1-H2L4). The ligands were prepared by the condensation of N-4 phenyl/methyl semicarbazide with o-vanillin/o-hydroxy acetophenone. The complexes were characterized by elemental, physico-chemical, and electrochemical methods. Catalytic studies of these complexes for the oxidation of alcohols and aryl-aryl coupling were carried out. Antimicrobial experiments were also carried out. © 2010 Taylor & Francis.

Information Retrieval (IR) has emerged as an empirical system to evaluate document collections and broadly encompasses finding unstructured documents that satisfies the query given to a large collection of documents. Document frequency measures are popular ways to extract feature from unstructured document but suffer from a huge dimensionality feature space. Adding semantics to the extracted features grossly increases the feature space. In this paper, a wrapper based feature selection technique for semantic IR is proposed. Semantics are the base for Information Retrieval's content description and query processing techniques. Semantic Similarity is about computing similarity between conceptually similar but lexically dissimilar terms. This work explored IR semantic features extraction based on word co-occurrence from web pages. Feature reduction is achieved through use of wrapper based feature selection technique comprising Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) followed by Shuffled frog algorithm. In this article the fuzzy logic based closed loop chopper controlled permanent magnet DC motor drive is proposed for orthopedic surgical simulators. The proposed drive consists of an inner current control loop and an outer speed control loop. The fuzzy technique is used in the speed loop and the system is simulated using Matlab/Simulink. The steady state and transient state responses of the proposed fuzzy system are compared with conventional PI controlled system. This article proposes a photovoltaic and battery interfaced series hybrid active power filter, which is comprised of a series active power filter and an inductor-capacitor (LC) shunt passive filter. The main benefits of the proposed system provide the compensation against the voltage harmonics, current harmonics, and voltage interruption for the whole day. A series active power filter demands a source of energy for compensating the voltage sag/swell. The proposed topology utilizes the green energy source with an energy storage unit to meet the DC-link voltage requirement of the series active power filter. The control strategy is based on the dual formulation of the compensation system principles with adaptive fuzzy logic controller. The simulation and experimental studies are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed photovoltaic interfaced three-phase four-wire series hybrid active power filter. © 2014 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Recent advances in data collection, data dissemination and related technologies have inaugurated a new era of research where existing data mining algorithms should be reconsidered from the point of view of securing sensitive data. People have become increasingly unwilling to share their data. This frequently results in individuals either refusing to share their data or providing incorrect data. In turn, such problems in data collection can affect the success of data mining, which relies on sufficient amounts of accurate data in order to produce meaningful results. Based on the analysis of shortcomings of earlier technologies this study proposes a new method for securing numerical and categorical data. In this method the categorical data is converted into Binary form and perturbation based noise is introduced as a security method based on the security level anticipated. Several types of noise addition methods were employed and generalized results were evaluated in terms of misclassification error and privacy level. An average of misclassification error was below 50% for 75-90% security level, which is better than earlier methods which didn't handle categorical data. The results obtained prove that the proposed method outperforms some of the currently existing methods thereby ensuring the possibility of securing sensitive data irrespective of its type being numerical or categorical. © 2012 Science Publications.

Green synthesis of metal nano particles is an emerging branch of nanotechnology, very cost effective, eco-friendly, thus, can be an economic and efficient alternative for the large-scale synthesis of nano particles. This study focuses on the bio synthesis property of Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) leaf extract in the synthesis of silver nano particles at room temperature without using any harmful reducing agents and its antibacterial activity. Characterization of synthesized silver nano particles was made using UV-Vis, SEM, XRD and FT-IR studies. The average particle sizes ranged from 7 - 8nm. Synthesised silver nano particles made a coating on glass substrates and morphological properties were characterized by SEM. Antibacterial activity of silver nano particles was analysed with various pathogens like Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas sp, proteus sp and Escherichia coli. Agriculture wastes of its leaves were utilised in the synthesis of silver nano particles. Our results suggest that Arachis hypogaea L. mediated silver nano particles that could act as an effective antibacterial agent in development of antibacterial control systems in water treatment, medicine and industries in future. Silver nano coating on the different glass substrate possesses different colour & morphological property that could support the modern coating techniques in the industries. © 2012 Bentham Science Publishers.
