This paper focuses on the delay-dependent robust H∞ filtering for uncertain discrete-time singular systems with interval time-varying delay. The uncertainty considered is a convex compact set of polytopic type. The purpose is the design of a linear robust H∞ filter such that the resulting filtering error singular system is regular, causal, and asymptotically stable with a H∞ norm bound. By establishing a finite sum inequality based on quadratic terms, a new delay-dependent bounded real lemma (BRL) for delayed singular systems is derived. Based on the derived BRL, a sufficient condition for the solvability of this problem is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) without decomposing the original system matrices. Also, it is shown that the proposed filter design method is general for both singular systems and non-singular systems. Finally, illustrative examples are presented to show the applicability of the proposed method. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this paper, a reduced-order delay-dependent robust H∞ filter design method for uncertain discrete-time singular systems with interval time-varying delay is presented by the LMI approach. On the basis of the bounded real lemma obtained, we propose the sufficient condition for the existence of reduced-order H∞ filters such that the delayed filtering error singular system is regular, causal, and stable with H∞ norm bound. Also, a new reduced-order H∞ filter design method for discrete singular systems with lossy measurements is presented using the proposed method to show the applicability of the main result. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the applications of the reduced-order filter design technique. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Disclosed herein is a blade bucket structure for Savonius turbines. In the blade bucket structure, blade buckets on which resistance resulting from the flow of fluid occurs, are provided with a separated flow retardation means for reducing pressure drag force impeding rotation of a Savonius turbine. The separated flow retardation means can reduce resistance that acts in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the Savonius turbine because of variation in orientation of the blade buckets while rotating.

This study aims to identify the relationship between return policy and product quality decisions in a decentralized system. We consider a supply chain situation, as in a retail or OEM supply chain system, where a buyer decides a return policy for consumers and delegates the product quality decision to a supplier. We consider the suppliers different risk attitudes, whether risk averse or risk neutral. A penalty contract is introduced to control the suppliers hidden action, conveying external failures due to returns to the supplier. We show the conditions for supply chain coordination and demonstrate that product quality enhancement needs to precede a generous return policy setting in view of the prevalent business environment and current supply chain management practices. Moreover, we indicate the optimal conditions for a generous return policy setting without quality enhancement. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.
