The main causes of damage to the water-wall tubes of hot-water boilers are discussed. The quality of the system water, design factors, and furnace conditions contribute to the damage. Transverse fatigue and corrosion-fatigue cracks on the outer and inner surfaces of water-wall tubes are described. The results of standard and special high-cycle fatigue tests on damaged metal are analyzed. The most important recommendations on the prevention of damage to the water-wall tubes of hot-water boilers are formulated. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
