To solve the problem of aspect angle sensitivity of range profile while used in radar target recognition, the concept "distributed glint" is presented for high resolution radar. The detailed deducing procedure of "distributed glint" is given through theoretical analysis. A new target recognition strategy based on range profile and distributed glint is proposed. Computer simulation proves that this method can greatly enhance the performance of recognition strategy based on range profile. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
