The combustion characteristics of sludge of different NaOH dosage was studied with the TGA/DSC simultaneous thermal analyzer. The results showed that the temperature range of the first category of organic matter was 50°C~180°C, and the second category varied with the dosage of NaOH. With the addition of NaOH, the initial temperature of decomposition and combustion of the second category of organic matter in sludge reduce and the end temperature increase. Accordingly, the ignition temperature of sludge lower, and the burnout temperature rise. The calorific value of the first category of organic matter of sludge lifted with the increasing of NaOH, the second category reduce, and the total calorific value drop. These results provide some basic data for the resource-oriented utilization of urban sewage treatment plant, especially for the application of sludge as industrial fuel.

The paper presents a computational study of the gas-solid flow in a three-dimensional spouted bed by a combined approach of discrete element method and computational fluid dynamics (DEM-CFD).The coupling between the discrete particle and continuum gas was achieved by applying the principle of Newton's third law of motion. As a result, it is found that the motion of particles was forming a distinct circulation between center zone and boundary zone of the 3D spouted bed in macro, and there was a stagnant zone near the bottom of the bed in which the particle velocity is almost zero near the wall, they do not move anywhere. Pressure drop will be affected by wind speed and particle density. With enhancing of wind velocity, pressure drop appears an increasing trend until it is up to a certain value, and then the curve will have a certain degree of back and keep in an extension; Adding particle density, pressure drop and its swing is increased markedly. The results of this study provide important information in the spouted bed and may be helpful for better application and modification of this type of spouted bed to the industrial process. © 2014 IFSA Publishing, S. This study defines the concept of local settlements, in an arid vernacular settlement research.Based on an analysis of the climatic conditions and its relations with the rural settlements and through the three levels such as village, courtyard and construction unit, the present paper sums up the special types of building strategies as well as construction modes at Turpan's Maza Village, Xinjiang. They are tentatively termed as-building materials locally generated, flat roof, high density, narrow lane, deep courtyard, on-slope house, cross-over street house, introverted courtyard, grapevine courtyard, ventilation wall, window in the top of the house, grape-drying room, soil arch, somi-ground basement, etc. in response to the local climatic environment.

This study was conducted for carbon-contained cement raw meal pellets from an actual production facility, and on heat transfer, particle cracking and the reaction process of the material balls under high temperatures. Reasonable process parameters and significant conclusions were obtained. The results suggested that (1) the residence time of materials in the preheating process should be controlled within approximately 300 s; (2) the preheating exhaust gas temperature should be controlled at 600°C, which should be conducive to reducing a large number of broken pellets; (3) higher temperatures, smaller particle sizes and greater gas velocity were helpful to a higher weight-loss ratio and an overall reaction rate; (4) pulverized coal combustion took longer time than limestone decomposition above 900°C. © W. Seismic behavior of plate-reinforced composite (PRC) coupling beams was simulated based on the finite element software, and the calculated results were compared with those of the experiments to ensure the correcteness of the simulation model. Furthermore, with abundant simulations, span-to-depth ratio, plate anchorage length in the wall region, plate thickness, longitudinal reinforcement ratio of beam and wall reinforcement ratio were all considered to analyse the effect on seismic behavior of PRC coupling beams. The results show that the tension softening property of concrete was simulated based on the relationship between stress and fracture energy, and the elastic-plasticity finite element analysis of the model was better conducted. The effects of changes of span-to-depth ratios on yield loads and peak loads of the coupling beams are significant. The yield loads and peak loads of PRC coupling beams gradually decrease with the increase of span-to-depth ratios, but their ductility performance is gradually improved. The load bearing capacity and stiffness of the coupling beams increase with the plate anchorage lengths, plate thicknesses and longitudinal reinforcement ratios, but the effects diminish as the span-to-depth ratios of coupling beams decrease. The load bearing capacity of the coupling beams increase with the increaseing wall reinforcement ratios, but the effects diminish as the wall reinforcement ratios increase. ©, 2014, Science Press.
