The motocross jersey are constructed of synthetic fabrics that is usually pre-decorated with a fully-sublimated pattern, design, and color. The sublimation process happens in the manufacturing of the actual jersey. Polyester fabric panels or rolls are heat printed with a full garment template printed with sublimation inks. Sublimated synthetics are very difficult to apply and one potential solution is to only offer darker colors of film. When the customer wants a lighter shade in the print includes selecting a material that has the ability to block or limit the chances of the dye migrating. The actual composition of the material does not matter much, it is more the thickness and a special barrier that is used in some films to actually block the dye. New technology that utilizes alternative dye-blocking technology that is softer and more stretchable is being used. Source

Some of the important points that need to be considered while buying a vinyl cutter, so that the most versatile investment is made for a printing business, are discussed. Vinyl cutter vary in price from $500 to $5,000, and the main difference between an inexpensive cutter and a mid-grade unit is usually the motor. Inexpensive cutters have a stepper motor which is not as durable as a servo motor commonly featured on midgrade or pro units. In addition to the motor, most inexpensive cutters also lack an optic eye registration system, a features allow the unit to trim around an image printed on vinyl/paper by reading crop marks that are printed along with the design. It is of critical importance to ensure the cutter and software allow for maximum utilization, so that job produced with a vinyl cutter has a direct cost related to the amount of material used. It is also important to make sure this driver and the cutter are compatible with the operating system. Source

Josh Ellsworth states that heat printing is emerging as a significant technique for printing the latest fashionable garments. The decorative apparel market is rapidly changing ranging from popular burnout styles to pre-sublimated blanks. Burnout styles are the popular techniques for printing such garments, being comprised of at least 40 percent polyester and timing up to 50 and 60 percent. The garment is treated with a chemical that strips away the fabric in certain areas creating a distressed, burnout style where no two garments are similar. Water-based screen printing and the new heat-applied film technology that delivers a similar result to water-based screen printing are two options for heat-printing this type of apparel. Source

Several approaches that are employed to create opportunities for heat printing are presented. One of the approaches is to create template and allowing for interchangeable fields. Online design software allows shoppers to drag and drop clip art, and to add text or even a photo, ordering as little as one shirt. Heat printing has the power to fulfill this complete individual customization on all areas of a garment and, further, on any type of garment. For the shops aware of cash flow and the value in reducing inventory in today's economic climate, this heat print workflow featuring print-on-demand offers scalability. Businesses can show ready-made designs online and allow customization of garment color, placement or design elements. The printing is done at the time of order eliminating the need for a clearance rack, close outs or specials facilitated by slow-moving inventory. Source

Several measures that need to be considered when evaluating any digital print paper or media are presented. It is required to print without jamming, need to transfer adequately, need to wash as expected for the intended use. Aqueous inkjet transfer papers are available in two basic varieties such as those for lights and those for dark color fabrics. The light color papers are simply paper backing and a polymer top coat with adhesive and the dark color papers actually consist of two, usually separable layers, of paper backing and a white thin film coated with adhesive. The laser papers are available in varieties for light-color fabrics and those for darks. Large-format digital printing is also very popular with the availability of variety solvent or ecosolvent print/cut materials compatible with printers for heat transfer. Solvent printers are fed by the roll instead of the sheet and, often times, with a print/cut device, the machine can be programmed to automatically cut around each image. Source
