The aggregate stability of natural diamond sols in LiCl aqueous solutions in the acidic region of pH values has been investigated using flow ultramicroscopy. The range of variations in parameters of structural forces for natural diamond in these solutions has been determined. The possibility of applying the Smoluchowski theory and the Muller theory of reversible coagulation to the description of the kinetics of coagulation and the equilibrium aggregate state of polydisperse diamond sols has been discussed. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Based on the traditional model with direct flow and counterflow of heat transfer agents in a stationary regime, the operation of a heat exchanger of the tube-in-tube type is analyzed. Account is taken of the natural limitations for the model that are connected with the possibility of practical realization of the similarity numbers involved in the equations of the model, as well as with the conditions (assumptions) invoked in the derivation of the model. A comparison of the efficiency of heat transfer in the noted regimes of heat transfer agent motions is made. For the purposes of this comparison, it is proposed to use an averaged value of the function that represents the ratio of efficiencies with heat transfer agent direct flow and counterflow over the region of possible values of similarity numbers. The results of a study of physicochemical properties (density, viscosity, refractive index, contraction, and surface tension) of water-alcohol (water-ethanol, water-propanol, and water-isopropanol) and alcohol-alcohol (propanol-butanol) mixtures are presented. The ratios of water and alcohol corresponding to the maxima of the viscosity and contraction of the mixtures are determined. A nonlinear character of dependences of the density and refractive index for water-alcohol mixtures versus their composition is demonstrated. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2012.

A formula dependent on two parameters has been proposed for the approximation of typical phase-equilibrium functions. This formula can be used for analysis of a number of mass-transfer processes, in particular, distillation, rectification, adsorption, etc. Using the dependence proposed, a mathematical model of periodic distillation of a binary mixture in the presence of a dephlegmator has been analyzed; in the dephlegmator, partial condensation of the separated mixture occurs in a nonstationary mode under certain supplementary conditions. Analytical expressions describing this process and convenient for calculations have been obtained. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
