E-learning involves the use of information and communication technology to teach and deliver learning materials and it's becoming increasingly important in the higher education in Sri Lanka. Learners' readiness to use the University e-Learning system enhances the learning efficiency and opportunities. University e-learning system provides more specific learning materials of required quality. A survey was conducted to investigate the critical factors affecting learners' readiness in using the e-Learning system. By using factor analysis the variables were classified into individual learners' study habits, learners' learning preferences, perception and willingness towards electronic learning and e-Learning readiness factors. Results show that the learners' willingness is significant when participating in e-learning system activities. Generally, learners use World Wide Web to improve their learning experience as a valuable source of information. The results showed that in order to adopt to the e-learning system, the most important factors are e-learning confidence and e-learning training not the e-learning readiness. © 2015 IEEE.

Offshore outsourcing of software development has become an increasingly popular trend in recent years. Sri Lanka has emerged as a favourable destination for outsourcing and it is currently catering to many offshore projects globally. However it is also observed that many other potential destinations are emerging globally. Due to this factor Sri Lankan software development firms would eventually face global competition in time to come. Therefore in this research paper, we would carry out an empirical study to assess & study the current quality measurements that software development companies in Sri Lanka have taken and further discuss on the importance and future benefits that companies would attain by performing these quality practices consistently. Our research adopts both quantitative and qualitative methods to solidify our results. The final outcome of this result would facilitate the software development industry to gain more understanding on the importance of adopting feasible quality measures into their software development life cycle. © 2013 IEEE.

Security is one of the key components of a computer system. The critical aspects become higher when it comes to online solutions that have millions of secure transactions occurring. Once the user credentials are passed to unintended user, the security of that particular entity is vulnerable harmful events could occur in different magnitudes. What is required is a reliable, efficient and hardware independent solution to authenticate online systems from intruders and hackers. In our research we have provided evidence that a complete platform independent online solution based on a methodology called Keystroke Dynamics which extract detailing timing information of user, and create a bio-matric template for each can be used to handle these treats. Comparing with other existing method this is more productive and efficient manner to authenticate online systems. © 2013 IEEE.

Software Development practices & methods significantly play a major role in Software Quality. Software inspections or also known as reviews facilitate software professionals to improve the quality among their products and to eliminate defects. This research is carried out to gain a broad understanding on software inspection methods and practices used in software development firms in Sri Lanka. Research objectives will check whether the Sri Lankan industry use software inspection to improve quality, to identify the types of inspection methods used by the industry and to identify what are the benefits and drawbacks faced by the industry. The research is supported through both quantitative and qualitative measurement techniques like questionnaires and interviews. As research outcomes, it is identified that, most of the Sri Lankan IT firms use software inspection methods and practices to improve their products to have quality software products. © 2013 IEEE.

The core intention of this paper is to observe the impact of effective configuration management (CM) usage in software development firms in Sri Lanka. Since there is large number of software development companies worldwide, the competition is high. In order to survive in the industry a company must have an effective CM process. Same rule can be applied for the Sri Lankan companies as well. Irrespective of the size of the company, they are required to perform CM activities. Hence CM has become a major requirement for software companies. This research paper points out the current usage of the CM in Sri Lankan software development companies. This analyse the importance of CM, benefits and outcomes the Sri Lankan companies can gain. Finally it describes tools used in CM, best practices, special techniques and the drawbacks. © 2013 IEEE.

Ralapanawa RND is a flood disaster management system with an automated water management component for water reservoirs. The system was implemented specifically aiming the requirements of Irrigation Department of Sri Lanka. In the rainy seasons of the year most areas of the country were affected by continuous floods and overnight rain. Many families were victimized by these chaotic disasters. Still there is no proper disaster warning or management system in Sri Lanka. This solution introduced in this paper is a fully automated water management system which will pre-warn far away before these kinds of disasters arise. The system also involves in automating manual driven functions currently undertaken by Irrigation Department management process. The system consist with an Electronic Embedded System (getting water levels from Tank) interconnected to a PC, Android and Windows Mobile Application for Mobility purpose, Telco Based SMS Application for famers, Centralized Web Service plus an Enterprise Web Site. Graphical Illustrations (Graphs and Charts), CCTV live Stream of Tanks, GPS positioning of Irrigators and many functionalities consist in this System. © 2013 IEEE.
