Highly transparent conductive Zinc Aluminum Oxide (ZAO) thin films have been deposited on glass substrate using DC reactive magnetron sputtering method. The thin films were deposited at room temperature and post-annealed at 200 oCfrom 15 to 90min. The period of post-annealing treatment on structural, electrical and optical properties of ZAO thin films were investigated. XRD patterns of ZAO films exhibit only (0 0 2) diffraction peak, indicating that they have c-axis preferred orientation perpendicular to the substrate. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) are used to study the morphology and topography of the films. The grain size obtained from FESEM images of ZAO thin films are found to be in the range of 20 - 26nm. The minimum resistivity of 1.74 x 10-4Ω.cm and an average transmittance of 92% are obtained for the thin film post- annealed for 30min. All ZAO films exhibit an average optical transmittance of > 85% in visible region. The optical band gap of ZAO thin films increased from 3.49 to 3.60eV with increase of post-annealing time due to Burstein-Moss effect. The optical constants such as refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (k) and absorption coefficient (α) were determined from the optical transmission spectra. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Levobunolol in bulk and tablet dosage forms. The method was based on the charge transfer reactions of Levobunolol with 2, 3-dichloro-5, 6-dicyano-1, 4-benzquinone. The absorbance of the highly intensive coloured solution was measured at 470 nm against reagent blank treated similarly. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 50-250 μg/ml. Statistical analysis proves that the proposed method is reproducible and selective for the routine analysis of pharmaceutical formulations of Levobunolol.

High fructose feeding (66 % of fructose) induces type-2 diabetes in rats, which is associated with the insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, hypertriglyceridemia and oxidative stress. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of Commiphora mukul gum resin (CMEE) on blood glucose, plasma insulin, lipid profiles, reduced glutathione, lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation and enzymatic antioxidants like superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-Stransferase in fructose-induced type-2 diabetic rats. A significant gain in body weight, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, increased lipid profiles, lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation and decreased reduced glutathione, activities of enzymatic antioxidants and insulin sensitivity (increased homeostasis assessment assay) were observed in high-fructose-induced diabetic rats. The administration of CMEE (200 mg/kg/day) daily for 60 days in high-fructose-induced diabetic rats reversed the above parameters significantly. CMEE has the ability to improve insulin sensitivity and delay the development of insulin resistance, aggravate antioxidant status in diabetic rats and may be used as an adjuvant therapy for patients with insulin resistance. © University of Navarra 2012.

Simple, Sensitive, Precise, Accurate and Cost-effective Difference spectrophotometric method for the determination of Chloroquine in bulk and tablet dosage form has been described. The ultraviolet spectra of a Chloroquine containing, amine as functional group is dependent on the state of ionization of the functional group & consequently on the pH of the solution. The proposed method is based on the principle that, Chloroquine exhibits different spectral characteristics in alkaline medium (0.1 M Sodium hydroxide) & acid medium (0.1 M Hydrochloricacid),difference in absorptivity (ΔA) is directly related to concentration. ΔA = abc Chloroquine in acidic medium is scanned over UV region by taking basic drug solution as blank. From the absorbance values, Two wave lengths are selected one at 285 nm(positive peak) and another at 345 nm(negative peak). The sum of the absolute values at these wavelengths is called amplitude. The amplitude is proportional to the amount of drug. Factors affecting selection of optimum pH,choice of wave lengths for maximum accuracy and precession are discussed. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 50-250 μg/ml with correlation coefficient of 0.999. The developed method has been successfully applied to pharmaceutical formulations without any interference from common excipients.

Complexes of Cu(II) and Ni(II) with novel type of ligands, viz., diacetylmonoximethiosemicarbazone, diacetylmonoxime-N(4)- methylthiosemicarbazone, diacetylmonoxime-N(4)-ethylthiosemicarbazone and diacetylmonoxime-N(4)-phenylthiosemicarbazone have been synthesized and characterized based on molar conductance, magnetic moment, electronic, IR and ESR spectral data. Electrochemical behaviour of these complexes is investigated by cyclic voltammetric studies. The binding properties of these complexes with calf-thymus DNA have been investigated using absorption spectrophotometry. Cleavage activity of these complexes has been investigated on double stranded pBR 322 plasmid DNA by gel electrophoresis experiments in the absence and in the presence of oxidant.
