This study proposes an expert system, which is called hybrid Kansei engineering system (HKES) based on multiple affective responses (MARs), to facilitate the development of product form design. HKES is consists of two sub-systems, namely forward Kansei engineering system (FKES) and backward Kansei engineering system (BKES). FKES is utilized to generate product alternatives and BKES is utilized to predict affective response of new product designs. Although the idea of HKES and similar hybrid systems have already been applied in various fields, such as product design, engineering design, and system optimization, most of existing methodologies are limited by searching optimal design solutions using single-objective optimization (SOO), instead of multi-objective optimization (MOO). Hence the applicability of HKES is limited while adapting to real-world problems, such as product form design discussed in this paper. To overcome this shortcoming, this study integrates the methodologies of support vector regression (SVR) and multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) into the scheme of HEKS. BKES was constructed by training SVR prediction model of every single affective response (SAR). The form features of these product samples were treated as input data while the average utility scores obtained from all the consumers were used as output values. FKES generates optimal design alternatives using the MOGA-based searching method according to MARs specified by a product designer as the system supervisor. A case study of mobile phone design was given to demonstrate the analysis results. The proposed HKES based on MARs can be applied to a wide variety of product design problems, as well as other MOO problems involving with subjective human perceptions. © 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd. This work studies the natural convection boundary layer flow over a truncated cone embedded in a porous medium saturated by a nanofluid with constant wall temperature and constant wall nanoparticle volume fraction. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are incorporated into the model for nanofluids. A suitable coordinate transformation is performed, and the obtained nonsimilar equations are solved by the cubic spline collocation method. The effect of the Brownian motion parameter and thermophoresis parameter on the temperature, nanoparticle volume fraction and velocity profiles are discussed. The effects of the thermophoresis parameter, Brownian parameter, Lewis number, and buoyancy ratio on the local Nusselt number have been studied. Results show that an increase in the thermophoresis parameter or the Brownian parameter tends to decrease the local Nusselt number. Moreover, the local Nusselt number increases as the buoyancy ratio or the Lewis number is decreased. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. Source

The effects of the power-law index, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter and buoyancy ratio on the temperature, nanoparticle volume fraction and velocity profiles are discussed. The reduced Nusselt numbers are plotted as functions of the power-law index, thermophoresis parameter, Brownian parameter, Lewis number, and buoyancy ratio. Results show that increasing the thermophoresis parameter or the Brownian parameter tends to decrease the reduced Nusselt number. In this work, we propose an innovative adaptive recommendation mechanism for smart parking. The cognitive RF module will transmit the vehicle location information and the parking space requirements to the parking congestion computing center (PCCC) when the driver must find a parking space. Moreover, for the parking spaces, we use a cellular automata (CA) model mechanism that can adjust to full and not full parking lot situations. Here, the PCCC can compute the nearest parking lot, the parking lot status and the current or opposite driving direction with the vehicle location information. By considering the driving direction, we can determine when the vehicles must turn around and thus reduce road congestion and speed up finding a parking space. The recommendation will be sent to the drivers through a wireless communication cognitive radio (CR) model after the computation and analysis by the PCCC. The current study evaluates the performance of this approach by conducting computer simulations. The simulation results show the strengths of the proposed smart parking mechanism in terms of avoiding increased congestion and decreasing the time to find a parking space. © 2014 Gwo-Jiun Horng. This work studies the Soret and Dufour effects on the natural convection heat and mass transfer near a vertical truncated cone with variable wall temperature and concentration in a fluid-saturated porous medium. A coordinate transform is used to obtain the nonsimilar governing equations, and the transformed boundary layer equations are solved by the cubic spline collocation method. Results for local Nusselt number and the local Sherwood number are presented as functions of Soret parameters, Dufour parameters, surface temperature and concentration exponents, buoyancy ratios, and Lewis numbers. Results show that increasing the Dufour parameter tends to decrease the local Nusselt number, while it tends to increase the local Sherwood number. An increase in the Soret number leads to an increase in the Nusselt number and a decrease in the Sherwood number from a vertical truncated cone in a fluid-saturated porous medium. The local Nusselt number and the local Sherwood number of the truncated cones with higher surface temperature and concentration exponents are higher than those with lower exponents. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.
