A method and apparatus for cooling hot gas streams in the temperature range 800 C. to 1600 C. using multi-stage circulating fluid bed (CFB) coolers is disclosed. The invention relates to cooling the hot syngas from coal gasifiers in which the hot syngas entrains substances that foul, erode and corrode heat transfer surfaces upon contact in conventional coolers. The hot syngas is cooled by extracting and indirectly transferring heat to heat transfer surfaces with circulating inert solid particles in CFB syngas coolers. The CFB syngas coolers are staged to facilitate generation of steam at multiple conditions and hot boiler feed water that are necessary for power generation in an IGCC process. The multi-stage syngas cooler can include internally circulating fluid bed coolers, externally circulating fluid bed coolers and hybrid coolers that incorporate features of both internally and externally circulating fluid bed coolers.

Disclosed are various embodiments for confirming a tornado event has contacted the ground surface and generating a path prediction. Upon receipt of power outage alarms from metering devices, the Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) application can generate cluster areas based on the location of the metering devices. The AMI application can compare cluster area to a tornado pattern to determine if the cluster area has experienced a tornado. AMI application can determine a speed and a direction of the tornado event based on the location and a time stamp associated with the metering devices in the cluster areas.

A knit fabric for use as a wrap around-sleeve having connectors along opposed edges. The fabric comprises a body portion knitted in a single layer of warp and weft yarns, a first edge portion of warp and weft yarns formed into spaced chains which secure a woven tape having hooks onto the knit fabric and a second edge knit to form raised loops. The hooks secured along the first edge are adapted to secure with the loops along the second edge securing the fabric edges forming the fabric into a wrap-around sleeve.

A method and system for reducing pulsation in a gas compressor system. A side branch absorber, which may be installed on the lateral piping of either the suction or discharge side of the cylinders, has a hyperbolic horn at the input end. The hyperbolic horn in series with an inlet reducer substantially increases the mass reactance of the resonator and substantially reduces the resonator frequency or the required cavity volume for target resonator frequency. The horn is hyperbolic in the sense that it has a large diameter at the first end tapers to a smaller diameter near the second end.

A coal feed system to feed pulverized low rank coals containing up to 25 wt % moisture to gasifiers operating up to 1000 psig pressure is described. The system includes gas distributor and collector gas permeable pipes imbedded in the lock vessel. Different methods of operation of the feed system are disclosed to minimize feed problems associated with bridging and packing of the pulverized coal. The method of maintaining the feed system and feeder device exit pressures using gas addition or extraction with the pressure control device is also described.

An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a simultaneous multipoint testing system for analyzing the composition of a fluid in a duct. The system can comprise a plurality of probes each having a plurality of sample legs at different locations within the duct. Each probe can also comprise a mixing chamber for mixing fluid samples collected by each of the sample legs. The system can further comprise a global mixing chamber configured to receive the mixtures of fluid samples from each probe mixing chamber and mix those fluid samples to create a global fluid sample. The system can further comprise an analyzer configured to receive at least a portion of the global fluid sample and measure levels predetermined compounds present in the at least a portion of the global fluid sample.

A lock system for monitoring and controlling the individual locks on cells in a prison. The lock system has a client component and a server component connected by means of an ethernet network. The server component includes all of the individual locks and the client component includes workstations. The software architecture of the locks includes a hardware layer with an application program interface (API) that controls the sensors and electromechanical components of the lock. The software architecture of the workstations includes a lock configuration tool that communicates with the ethernet network to send commands and to receive data from the locks. The workstations also include a presentation layer or browser that provides the interface with the user of the workstations.

Disclosed herein are viral vectors based on modifications of the Citrus Tristeza virus useful for transfecting citrus trees for beneficial purposes. Included in the disclosure are viral vectors including one or more gene cassettes that encode spinach defensin peptide(s). The gene cassettes are positioned at desirable locations on the viral genome so as to enable expression while preserving functionality of the virus. Also disclosed are methods of transfecting plants and plants transfected with viral vector embodiments.
