The Caecal volvulus, a serious surgical condition, has a mortality of 10% which is extremely rare in children. We report a case of a 12 year old child, presenting with the acute signs and symptoms of peritonitis. An exploratory laparotomy revealed caecal volvulus which had resulted in caecal gangrene. This was treated by primary resection and anastomosis.

Abdominal wall hernias caused by direct trauma from handlebar-like objects, are therefore called handlebar hernias, are a rare occurrence. There have been few reports in the literature of traumatic trans-rectus herniation [1]. The presentation can vary substantially and the diagnosis is difficult.

Isolated tracheobronchial injuries are extremely rare in children and challenging due to life threatening complications. Blunt trauma to chest, especially in pediatric age group, is usually associated with multi-organ involvement and high mortality rate. These patients rarely reach a hospital. We have described here a case of complete transection of right main bronchus in a child, without hilar vascular injury, and its successful management, emphasizing the role of bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy.

Hypopigmentation, either a white forelock or changes in the eyebrows and/or isochromia irides, associated with signs of bowel obstruction should alert the paediatrician and paediatric surgeons to the possibility of aganglionosis. We report a case of Waardenburg-Shah syndrome, which is a very rare congenital disorder with variable clinical expression, characterized by Hirschsprungs' disease and abnormal melanocyte migration, resulting in pigmentary abnormalities and sensorineural deafness. Our patient had an exceptional association of extended long-segment aganglionosis and underwent a proximal ileostomy but did not survive until a definitive procedure was performed. Long-term prognosis of such children is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Ann Pediatr Surg 8:59-61 © 2012 Annals of Pediatric Surgery.

Hydrometrocolpos and polydactyly have been associated with many syndromes and can present at any age. Rarely does hydrometrocolpos present as neonatal intestinal obstruction. We report two cases of McKusick-Kaufman syndrome presenting with intestinal obstruction. In both cases, intestinal obstruction got relieved after a cutaneous vaginostomy.
