A crosslinked acid system is developed, which is stable at high temperature and can carry sand. This acid is shearing resistant, having a viscosity of 70.9 mPa · s after shearing 60 min at 120°C and 170 s-1. Compared with the gelled acids currently used in the Tarim River oilfield, this crosslmked acid fluid has a much lower reaction speed and corrosion rate, and better sand carrying capacity. This demonstrates that crosslmked acid has the advantages in reducing acid fluid filtration and in increasing the distance of acid corrosion over the gelled acids. Laboratory study was conducted evaluating the flow conductivity in fractures after acid corrosion with and without carrying sands. Laser scanning imaging technology was used to digitally characterize the pattern of fractures. It shows that 20% higher flow conductivity can be gained by corrosion of crosslinked acid with sand, compared with corrosion of acid alone, demonstrating that crosslinked acid can be used in sand carrying fracturing.
