Models of permanent deformation in soils and granular materials are analysed in the article. Power, logarithmic and exponential functions that connect permanent deformation with the deformation caused by the first loading or with the one accumulated as a result of a certain number of load applications are found to be most often used. Due to the application of a hereditary creep theory some generalizing models for the analysis of permanent deformations under cyclic loading were obtained. As a result, a new method based on the integration of power functions describing the increment of permanent deformation was proposed. The experimental data on the dependence of residual deformation upon the amount of loads, maximum and minimum stresses were obtained, coefficients of equations derived were defined. The results of the calculations and the experimental data of a triaxial test of sand-gravel mix and granodiorite crushed stone were compared. © 2016, Instytut Badawczy Drog i Mostow. In this article we preset results of the comparative analysis of two different ways of approximation of actual spatial trajectory of load displacements carried by overhead crane. Sigmoidal functions and polynomials are used to achieve the required agreement with the real trajectories. It is also shown how to obtain maximum accuracy by changing the shape of the trajectory at a fixed displacement time.

The authors propose an approach to the parametric synthesis of an automatic control system by a selected performance criterion using the genetic algorithm. A mathematic model of a digital automatic control system is provided and realized in MATLAB/Simulink. And finally, the paper presents the results of system parameters optimization in the range of settings ruling out instable operation and self-oscillations; these results have been obtained in MATLAB/Genetic Algorithm and Direct Search Toolbox. © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

This paper presents a comparison of natural and artificial intelligences in identifying operators of information-processing systems and their functional state based on handwriting. The cause of the large scatter in the person identification error probability is determined. It is concluded that at the present level of knowledge, the best result achieved in solving the problem by artificial intelligence systems is close to that potentially possible. It is substantiated that online handwritten signature verification is suitable for identifying the functional state of operators of human-machine systems in professional activities. © 2016, Allerton Press, Inc.

Operational reliability of a pipeline valve depends on the durability of the weld sealing surfaces of the stop device, while the durability of the sealing surface is determined by the coating material properties. To enhance stop valve durability, a new composition for a flux-cored wire was developed, ensuring the generation of the surfacing metal with alloying system Cr-Ni-Mo-Mn-Si-Nb-Ti-B. Such wire provides overall hardening of the coating matrix with carboboride and intermetallic phases, providing an advanced operational reliability of stop valve nodes operating under friction conditions in aggressive environment. © 2016 The Authors.

The chromium-nickel alloy doped with niobium, titanium, aluminum and modified by titanium complex - titanium carbonitride is developed for the manufacture of the oil pyrolysis furnace cast coil hanger. The application of a modifier has led to the improvement of the cast grain structure, morphology and topography of hardening phases. These changes have provided the heat resistance increasing and the structural stability of the cast alloy in use. © 2016 The Authors.

AK9 silumin samples (Al-Si) were treated by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) in order to obtain surface oxide layer. These samples were not enough active as catalysts in CO oxidation (1% CO vol in air). Palladium activated samples were more active. Thus the temperature of 50% CO conversion for Pd/SiO2/Al-Si sample is T50 = 152 °C and T99 is 170 °C. According to IR spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy as well as scanning electron microscopy data, the active layer of the most active sample Pd/SiO2/Al-Si presents by noncrystalline SiO2 with γ-alumina and palladium inclusions. the covering has of 10-20 nm Accordingly to atomic force microscopy data the roughness of surface layer is ∼ 10 - 20 nm. © 2016 The Authors.

Solutions to the problem of cable-stayed bridge dynamics are received and analysed on the basis of two modelling options. According to the first one space-time finite-elements are used. The first three bridge vibration modes are shown to study cable-stayed bridge fluctuations when exposed to the vertical force moving at a constant speed and compile charts of time history strains in fixed sections of a deck. According to the second option a suspended superstructure is represented by a fold with absolutely rigid transverse membranes in joints of cables, a bridge tower is represented by a beam. Natural modes of the bridge are received by a solution of homogeneous system equations of the mixed method. Nodal lines of a fold for the first four natural modes are shown. The comparative description of applicability of the above-mentioned methods of solving problems of dynamics affected by moving load is given.

This problem of identifying operators during interaction with a technical system of thermal and visible face imaging is considered. The informativeness of the facial asymmetry feature is estimated. It is concluded that it is preferred to use thermal images to solve the problem. Estimates of the probabilities of correct identification of operators are obtained. © 2015, Allerton Press, Inc.
