A series of CoAlxCrxFe2-2xO4 systems (x = 0.1 to 0.5 in steps of x = 0.1) spinel ferrites have been synthesized successfully using wet chemical co-precipitation technique. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and magnetization measurements. The powder XRD patterns confirm the single phase spinel structure for the materials synthesized. X -ray diffraction measurements were performed to yield the lattice constant as function of the amount x corresponding to Al-Cr substitution. Lattice parameters, X-ray density, bulk density and particle size decrease whereas porosity increases with the increase in Al-Cr content, 'x'. Infrared studies show two absorption bands at about 400 cm-1 and 600 cm-1 for octahedral and tetrahedral sites, respectively. Saturation magnetization decreases with the increase in Al-Cr content x. AC magnetic susceptibility measurements were carried out as a function of temperature to measure the Curie temperature, which was found to decrease with Al-Cr content x. The decrease of Curie temperature has been explained by A-B interaction. © 2010 Versita Warsaw and Springer-Verlag Wien.

Cu(II), Co(II)and Cr(III) complexes of 2, 4 diamino-5 (3, 4, 5 Trimethoxy benzyl) pyrimidine have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic moments, IR, 1HNMR, UV-visible, EPR, TG/DTA and powder XRD. Copper complex had 1:1 stoichiometrty where as cobalt and chromium complexes have 1:2 stoichiometries. The influence Cu(II) complex on germination of Bengal gram (Cicerarientinum) (Dollar), Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) (SB XI), Soyabean (Glycine max)(Clark) and Pea(Pisumsativaum) (Aarkil)seeds from local Varieties have been investigated. Complex was found to exhibit enhanced activity compared to ligand TBPD and metal salts.

The electric properties of Ni1-xZnxFe2O4 ferrites (with x=0.0-0.7, in steps of x=0.1) prepared by wet chemical co-precipitation method have been studied as a function of frequency, temperature and composition. The broad XRD peaks of green samples and TEM image confirm the nano-dimensional nature of the prepared samples. Dispersion in the dielectric constant with frequency is observed and dielectric loss also shows decrease in its value with increase in frequency. The dielectric loss tangent was found to increase with frequency. Dielectric constant (ε′), dielectric loss (ε″) and loss tangent (tan δ) show strong temperature dependence at all frequencies. The temperature dependent results indicate that the values of ε′, ε″ and tan δ increase with increase in temperature. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Complexes of the type [M(DAPA)Cl]2H2O and [M(DAPA)(H2O)2Cl]Cl] where DAPA = 2-[2, 6- dichlorophenyl) amino] benzene acetic acid has been synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical analysis, spectral methods, TGA/DTA and X-Ray diffraction studies. Complexes have 1:1 stoichiometry and square planar and octahedral geometries indicating mononegative tridentate nature of the ligand. 1HNMR and IR spectra suggest involvement of carboxylic and secondary amine groups in coordination. EPR spectra support for misalignment of tetragonal axes and TGA/DTA revealed the stability of the complexes in the order as Cu(II) > Co(II) > Cr(III). X-Ray diffraction study corresponds to tetragonal crystal system for Cu (II) while monoclinic crystal system for Co (II) and Cr (III) complexes. Moderate antibacterial and antifungal activities have been evaluated against selected gram positive and gram negative bacteria and pathogenic fungi.

The present study deals with morphology and taxonomy of the cestode Uncibil ocularis osmanabadensis n.sp. from the marine fish Aetomylaeus nichoffii from West Coast of Maharashtra. The species has been compared with U. trigonis Southwell, 1925, U. indica Subhapradha, 1955, U. aurangabadensis Deshmukh and Shinde, 1975, U. Soulthwelli Shinde, 1976, U. thapari Deshmukh 1979, U. Somnathi, Deshmukh, 1979, U. bombayensis Jadhav, Shindl & Phad, 1984, U. Shastri Jadhav, Shinde, Murlidhar & Mohekar, 1989, and U. ranuae Pawar and Jadhav, 2005. Histopathology of the cestode has also been studied.

Ferrite samples of Al3+ substituted NiFe2O 4 nanoparticles were prepared by wet chemical co-precipitation method. The samples were obtained by annealing at relatively low temperature at 600 °C and characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), and ac susceptibility. On applying the full pattern fitting of Rietveld method using FullProf program, exact coordinates of atoms, unit cell dimensions, atom ion occupancy, degree of inversion as well as crystallite size and residual microstrain have been determined. The lattice parameter, density, particle size, lattice strain, magnetization, magneton number, and Curie temperature are seen to decrease with increasing A13+ content whereas the specific surface area, porosity, coercive force, shows an increasing trend with A13+ content. Cation distribution is obtained from XRD and Rietveld method and the variation of the cation distribution has been discussed on the basis of site preference, size and valence of the substituting cations. The variation of the magneton number with the Al3+ content is satisfactorily explained on the basis of Néel's collinear spin ordering model. Curie temperature of all the compositions are also obtained theoretically and it agrees with observed Curie temperature. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.

The structural and dielectric properties of magnesium substituted nickel ferrite having the general formula of Ni 1- xMg xFe 2O 4 (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0) has been studied as function of Mg ion concentration. The samples were prepared by sol-gel auto-combustion method. The powder X-ray diffraction patterns confirm single phase cubic structure. The variation of lattice constant 'a' increases with Mg content x, the average particle size of these ferrites as determined from Scherrer's relation and TEM is in the range of few ten nanometer. The dielectric constant decreases with increase in frequency and Mg content x. The dispersion of dielectric constant was discussed in the light of Koop's theory. © 2011 IEEE.

Metal chelates of ligand 4-(N-methyl-2, 2-dichloroacetamido) phenyl-2-furoate have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic moments, IR, 1H NMR, UV-visible, EPR, TG/DTA and powder XRD. Copper and cobalt complexes have 1:1 stoichiometries while chromium complex has 1:2 stoichiometry. Metal chelates have considerable influence on organic carbon, total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content and percent weight loss. After decomposition, C: N ratio of the organic matter was appreciably improved compared to non-decomposed organic matter.

CoAlxCrxFe2-2xO4 spinel ferrite systems (where x = 0.1 to 0.5 in steps of x = 0.1) were synthesized by wet chemical co-precipitation technique, aiming to study the relationship between cation distribution and concentration of the simultaneous substitution of Al3+ and Cr3+ ions. The Al3+ and Cr 3+ site occupancies show nearly linear composition dependence. The obtained results show, that both Al3+ and Cr3+ ions predominately occupy the octahedral B-site. This is consistent with their preference for large octahedral site energy. The concentration of Al 3+ and Cr3+ ions in octahedral sites increases while that of Fe3+ ions decreases linearly. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.
