The corrosion behavior of a low carbon steel was investigated at 1200°C in mixed SO2-CO2-O2-N2 gas atmospheres with different content of SO2. The composition of the oxide scale was analyzed by XRD. The morphology and element distribution in the oxide scale was studied by SEM and EDX. The results show that corrosion resistance of the steel reduces when the concentration of SO2 reaches 200 mg/m3. A complete FeS layer is formed at the interface of the scale and substrate while the concentration of SO2 exceeds 500 mg/m3. The FeS layer reduces the adherence of oxide scale, destroys the integrity of the oxide layer and caused severe oxidation at high temperature. In addition, the FeS layer sticks to the steel surface during cooling and affects the surface quality of later product. The structure of outer scale, which is composed of Fe2O3 layer and Fe3O4-FeO mixed layer, stays the same in the range of concentration of SO2 for the present experiments. By controlling the SO2 content in the atmosphere, the sulphur segregation at the interface can be alleviated, the high temperature corrosion of the steel can be reduced, the descaling ability is enhanced and the surface quality of finish product is improved.

Basic oxygen furnace (BOF) gas dry dedusting technique is the key technology of contemporary BOF steelmaking to achieve high efficient energy conversion, which is provided with high efficient energy conversion, water saving, energy saving and lower emission, environment clean and friendly. It can significantly reduce water consumption, efficient recycling of steam and gas, to reduce environmental pollution. According to the process and technical feature of BOF steelmaking under the condition of "full three removal" at Shougang Jingtang, the technical mechanism of BOF gas explosion was analyzed, and the safe technical measures to control the BOF gas explosion were researched and developed. The gas flow process in evaporative cooling tower was investigated and analyzed by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical simulation technology, and the layout and flow control of nozzles in evaporative cooling tower were optimized. A number of key technologies were researched and developed to control the gas composition and temperature rationally of 300t converter under the condition of "full three removal" smelting. The recovery efficiency of gas and steam was improved effectively; the gas explosions were reduced significantly. The targets are achieved which include stable operation, efficient energy recovery, and significantly reduced emissions. It is proved by application, the annual recovery of gas and steam under the condition of "full three removal" has been reached practically more than 85 m3/t and 110 kg/t respectively, and annual numbers of gas explosion are controlled less than 0.03%. BOF dry dedusting technology has ensured the safe and stable operation of steelmaking production; it has created significant economic and ecological environment benefit.

The present study compared the differences of texture and earing behaviour in DR tinplate steel sheets. Dissolved carbon and nitrogen contents were discussed as the principal factor. The {001}⟨110⟩ texture component whose earing tendency is higher than that of heterogeneous {111} fibre texture, is harmful for earing property and needed to be reduced to minimum in most cases. The increase of the dissolved carbon and nitrogen contents is responsible for weaker {111} fibre texture and more intense {001}⟨110⟩ component. Additionally, a strong {114}⟨110⟩ texture component was observed on condition of higher dissolved carbon and nitrogen contents and its formation mechanism was discussed. © 2016 Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining

The hot metal full pretreatment and less-slag steelmaking process constituted a platform to produce clean steel with low cost and rapid pace and also realized a professional production line. The w[P] can be less than 0.030% at the end of De-P converter and 0.006% at the end of De-C converter. The w[N] in steel can be less than 15×10-6 at the stirring station. This production line can make clean steel steadily used for auto sheet or pipeline, for example X65MS. The De-C slag was left in the converter for the next heat and recycled to De-P converter to reduce lime consumption, which has a great benefit for the cost saving. © 2014 Central Iron and Steel Research Institute.

Through industrial experimental study on dephosphorization in 300t combined-blowing converter of Shougang Jingtang Iron & Steel United Co. Ltd., the effects of semi-steel temperature, dephosphorization slag oxidation as well as basicity on dephosphorization rate and phosphorus distribution ratio were studied in this paper. The results showed that the finished phosphorus content of semi-steel finish could be controlled less than 0.030% under the condition of semi-steel temperature and slag alkalinity controlled within 1290°C to 1310°C and 1.9 to 2.5, which could make the average phosphorus content of 0.026% in semi-steel, and the proportion of [P] 0.030% reached 81.01%. In the current study, the three-dimensional fluid flow, heat transfer and solidification in FC-Mold continuous casting strands were simulated, and the influences of upper and lower magnetic fields of FC-Mold on the distribution of inclusions beneath the surface of the slab were discussed, considering the washing effect of flow on the solidifying front. The results indicate that the influence of FC-Mold on fluid flow in steel continuous casting mold is determined by the choice of SEN and the intensity of upper and lower magnetic fields. Larger upper magnetic field intensity was not recommended due to high flow speed at meniscus. The maximum flow speed at meniscus was 0.48 m/s when the upper magnetic intensity was 0.68 T in the current simulation. After applying FC-Mold, more superheated molten steel was brought to the upper recirculation zone contributing to temperature increase at meniscus. With regard to the entrapment of inclusions, a criterion was established and validated, considering the effect of flow on the motion of inclusions. Increasing the intensity of upper and lower magnetic fields could make the region 5 mm below the surface become cleaner, and eliminate the aggregation of inclusions. © 2016 EDP Sciences.

The nanometer Al2O3 dispersion strengthened Fe-Cr-Mo composite coatings by crosscurrent CO2 laser on 316L steel were produced. The microstructure and phase composition of the coatings were examined through optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction analyses. Hardness distribution, tensile properties and wear resistance of the coatings were determined to analyse the mechanical properties and the strengthening mechanism of the cladding layer. Results showed that Al2O3 was partly dissolved, and produced Fe3Al intermetallic compound; this new phase and Al2O3 feature fine grain, high hardness, high tensile strength, and excellent wear resistance. Fe-Cr-Mo steel with 8 wt.% Al2O3 was considered appropriate for uniformity of the microstructure. Under the same proportion with micro-Al2O3, the nano-Al2O3 was easily melted and generated Fe3Al. Improved hardness and wear resistance could be ascribed to the high bonding strength of Al2O3 reinforced phase to the matrix through the transition of Fe3Al intermetallic compound. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.
