The present invention provides an ultraviolet light irradiation device having a planer UV light source in which the irradiation intensity of UV light can be adjusted finely in a wider range. The ultraviolet light irradiation device of the present invention comprises an UV light source and a housing that holds the planer UV light source. In the UV light source, a plurality of thin plasma tubes, each of which has an UV phosphor layer formed therein, are arranged in parallel with each other on an electrode support sheet, and drive circuits apply a pulse voltage to electrode pairs provided between the electrode support sheet and an array of the thin plasma tubes. A control circuit controls a factor of the pulse voltage to be applied to the electrode pairs so as to adjust the irradiation intensity of the UV light.

Plasma display technologies are always leading development of large area display and making a new display field. The first 42-in.diagonal PDP has created a large area home FP-TV market and then, has changed the display culture of home. Now more large area displays are required to realize a life size display in which human feel as if you live in the image on the display. This paper will discuss PDP technologies to contribute the future display world.

Plasma tubes array is a film display that is able to realize an extra large area emissive display, and also be expected to realize the new industrial applications of wall size display because of its attractive characteristics such as ultra-thin, lightweight, flexible and low power consumption. We had successfully developed a prototype display of 3 m × 2 m screen size which consisted of 6 of 1 m × 1 m sub-modules with seamless connected structure. The weight, thickness and power consumption of the display film were 7.5 kg, 1 mm, and 1200 W, respectively. It enables people to get an immersive experience with high quality real-size images shown on this display, which opens a door to the new world of natural communication in a virtual environment. © 2010 IEEE.

A plasma tube array-type display sub-module commonized to allow a universal design, and a large-screen display device configured with the plural PTA sub-modules are easily provided. A front-side supporting sheet is provided, on front face of a plasma tube array with a plurality of display electrode pairs in which X and Y electrodes extend in the direction intersecting the plasma tubes. At both ends of the front-side supporting sheet, connection boards are provided in which an X connector connected to the X electrode and a Y connector connected to the Y electrode are provided separately in the direction in which the display electrode pairs extend. A flexible cable connects between the same type of connectors of the adjacent PTA sub-modules and thereby the PTA sub-modules are joined together.

In a plasma tube array-type display device, a first surface of the intermediate member, which is a flexible and bumpy intermediate member 4 interposed between a plasma tube array and a frame substrate, is attached with the rear surface of the plasma tube array at a top face of a plurality of convex portions provided on the first surface, and a second surface opposite to the first surface is attached with the frame substrate so as to define a screen shape, thereby the plasma tube array can be separated easily from the frame substrate.
