Nano-sized hydroxyapatite(HA) powder was prepared by means of liquid precipitation method and its crystal structure and the characteristic were analyzed using X-ray diffraction and SEM. The effects of reaction temperature, pH value and aging time on the Powder particle size and phase composition were investigated. The results show on condition that value the reaction temperature is 90°C, pH value is 10 and the aging time is 12 h, the pure and integrate HA crystals with average diameter of 70 nm can be gained. © Copyright.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate facial soft tissue 3-deminsion changes of skeletal Class III malocclusion patients after orthognathic surgery using structure light scanning technique.METHODS: Eight patients [3 males and 5 females, aged (27.08 ± 4.42) years] with Class III dentoskeletal relationship who underwent a bimaxillary orthognathic surgical procedure involving advancement of the maxilla by Le Fort I osteotomy and mandibular setback by bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSO) and genioplasty to correct deformity were included. 3D facial images were obtained by structure light scanner for all the patients 2 weeks preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. The facial soft tissue changes were evaluated in 3-dimension. The linear distances and angulation changes for facial soft tissue landmarks were analyzed. The soft tissue volumetric changes were assessed too.RESULTS: There were significant differences in the sagittal and vertical changes of soft tissue landmarks. The greatest amount of soft tissue change was close to lips. There were more volumetric changes in the chin than in the maxilla, and fewer in the forehead.CONCLUSION: After biomaxillary surgery, there were significant facial soft tissue differences mainly in the sagittal and vertical dimension for skeletal Class III patients. The structure light 3D scanning technique can be accurately used to estimate the soft tissue changes in patients who undergo orthognathic surgery.

Three dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) has been used widely in diagnosis and treatment for patients with jaw deformity. In present study, the author assessed the value of 3D-CT in jaw osteotomies. Anatomic measurement data from 3D-CT was used to guide surgical treatment. 42 patients with dentofacial deformity (28 females and 14 males) were selected as study group who underwent Le Fort I osteotomy with bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy or intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO). The patients in study group were observed on 3D-CT acquired with a slice thickness of 1.25mm between June 2006 and June 2010. 20 patients were selected as control group who underwent the same osteotomy between June 2006 and June 2010. Patients in control group underwent X-rays such as panoramic film and cephalometric radiography•• but no anatomic measurements. The following anatomical data was measured for study group: 1. the distance from lingula mandibulae to anterior border of ramus, posterior border of ramus and inferior border of simoid notch; 2. the width between the outer mandibular canal and buccal side cortical bone at three location planes: the mandibular foramen plane (MFP), the mandibular angle plane (MAP) and the intermediate plane (MIP) between MFP and MAP; 3. the height of bilateral pterygomaxillary junction; 4. the anteroposterior distance from bilateral anterior nasal aperture to canalis pterygopalatinus. According to the anatomical data from 3D-CT, surgeons can take measures to avoid some complications during operation. As for study group, 42 patients satisfied with operation didn't experience severe complications such as avascular necrosis, unexpected fracture and haemorrhage and so on. As for control group, 3 patients suffered from mandible fracture and 1 patient descending palatine artery blooding. All the results showed that 3D-CT was valuable for jaws osteotomies. © 2012 The Hard Tissue Biology Network Association.

Objective: To evaluate clinical effects of ceramic inlays fabricated by the Cerec III CAD/CAM system and Co - Cr alloy inlays in restorating posterior teeth.Methods: 90 cases after root canal therapy were selected. One group included 48 cases with Ceramic inlays by the Cerec III CAD/CAM; the other group included 42 cases with Co - Cr alloy inlays. We examined clinical effects after two years restoration.Results: Statistically significant difference was shown in marginal fit, appearance, and integrity of the tooth after 2 years restoration.Conclusion: Ceramic inlays by CEREC III CAD/CAM system have better clinical effect than Co - Cr alloy inlays.

The influence of high glucose on proliferation and expression of correlation factors including TNF related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL), osteoprotegerin (OPG) and osteoprotegerin ligand (OPGL) of MG63 osteoblasts was detected in the present study. The relationship between the high concentration blood glucose and the physiological functions of human osteoblasts was studied. Then the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus with chronic periodontitis was discussed. MG63 cells were cultured in different concentrations (5.5 mmol/l, 8 mmol/l, 11 mmol/l, 20 mmol/l, 30 mmol/l) medium for 24 hours. Cell proliferation was detected by MTT measurement. Flow cytometry was used to detect cell cycles. The mRNA expressions of TRAIL, OPG, and OPGL were detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The results showed that a low concentration of glucose has no significant influence on the proliferation of MG63 cells and other biological activity. With the increase of glucose concentration, the proliferation of MG63 cells was inhibited. The percentage of G1 phase cells was increased, the proportion of S phase kept unchanged and the percentage of G2 phase cells was decreased. With the increase of glucose concentration, the mRNA expressions of TRAIL and OPGL of MG63 cells showed an increasing trend while OPG showed an opposite trend. In conclusion, high glucose can inhibit the proliferation of MG63 and lead to the increasing mRNA expression of TRAIL and OPGL of human osteoblasts. However, the mRNA expression of OPG of human osteoblasts was decreased. © 2015, The Hard Tissue Biology Network Association.
