The analysis of influence to crop length and width deviation by different broadside rolling ratio and longitudinal rolling ratio in broadening phase and finish rolling phase in plate mill was developed. As to different broadside rolling ratio and longitudinal rolling ratio, an optimization method of edging draught was put into forward, in which optimal edging draught was confirmed so as to obtain minimum trimming loss by the stagnation point as aspect ratio equal to 10. 26. From actual application it shows that this method can decrease product trimming loss by more than 15%, and it can increase plate product yields greatly.

In order to solve width deviation caused by head to tail taper in spread rolling in the production of making ultra-heavy plate from ingot, a wedge rolling method was proposed. An analysis was also conducted on the width variations rules on different spread ratio conditions as well as relationships between lateral flow factor and spread coefficients. This paper calculated each point dog-bone recovery spread and unrestricted spread along length direction after vertical roll removing taper, established edge double-drum width form function and built a plate margin folding function. Next, a work piece wedge model was built based on equivalent head and tail spread conditions, folding amounts, main motor practicable speed feedback, continuous forward slip ratio calculations, and the construction of a micro-trace model in rolling process. Practical applications showed that the method proposed could improve the product rolling yields by 3%~4% and worthy to apply to plate rolling.

Aiming at the stall of axial-flow fan happened regularly in the heavy-duty locomotive, a three-dimensional numerical model was built to study the aerodynamic performance of the axial-flow fan and predict the stall point. The coupling equations of pressure and velocities were solved with the SIMPLE algorithm, and the RNG k-ε turbulence model was also applied to this simulation. The performance parameters under several different conditions were calculated, and the fan characteristic curves were drawn. Furthermore, the internal flow rules and stall behavior of axial-flow fan were analyzed. The results indicated that the fan characteristic curves show an unstable operation region, in which the inflection point exists. Compared with the working condition, the minimum value of static pressure in the impeller area is higher, and the static pressure gradient of the blades significantly drops under the stall condition. When the stall occurs, the curvature of streamline tends to be severe, and the whirlpool zone extends at the tail. Based on the results, the stall point is predicted when the flow coefficient value is 0.201. ©, 2015, Northeastern University. All right reserved.

There is a certain extent of measuring error for each pyrometer in plate production process, which has a great impact on process control system. A soft sensor technique is used to calculate the confidence interval of measring temperature data from pyrometers and an inference estimator is designed by partial least square method, then the pyrometer with highest confidence is considered as the reference one, with which inference estimation for measured data on-line of other pyrometers is started and the measuring error is conformed. From actual application it can be found that this method can improve the measuring accuracy by 3%-5%, and has high field application value. © 2011 Central Iron and Steel Research Institute.

In plate width control process, a micro-reducing rolling technique was put forward to improve the square degree on different broadening ratio of products. The width alteration rules on different broadening ratio as well as the relationship between lateral flow factors and broadening coefficient were analyzed. The width form functions were built, each point dog-bone recovery broadening along length direction was calculated, and the reducing width rolling curve with edger roll gradual gap based on this recovery broadening was obtained. Practical applications showed that the method proposed is available to improve greatly the product rolling yields and worthy to apply to plate rolling.

In the prediction process of rolling force for plates, to prevent the self-learning coefficient from the skipping along thickness layers, a self-adjusting method was put forward in the self-learning process of the rolling force for medium/thick plates. In the method the half-width zone was calculated according to every thickness node as listed in the table of thickness layers, then the range of validity of a thickness node was calculated according to half-width zone so as to find out the validating range of the thickness during rolling and determine the weighted value corresponding to the relevant thickness node, thus giving the self-learning coefficient after self-adjusting. Practical applications showed that the method proposed is available to improve the prediction accuracy of rolling force and plate shape control greatly and worthy to apply to plate rolling.

The precision width control is vital for product quality and production economy in plate width control process, so short stroke control method was used in plate rolling by opening or closing edger gap so as to avoid head end necking. Head end necking on different broadening ratio was analyzed, and sections of different elongations at edger rolling was calculated; based on the law of volume constancy, the adjustment functions were described by parabolic functions. Control curves were developed with three Gaussian curves by means of additional combining; SSC control curve was changed with different weights of those curves, w1 effect one-third of SSC length, w2 effect two-third of SSC length, w3 effect all three parts of SSC length. In order to adjust the amount of weights for precise quantification, PSO algorithm was used to build sufficiency function so as to obtain best rectangular degree by global optimization. Practical applications showed that the method proposed is available to improve the product rolling yields by 1.0%-2.0% and worthy to apply to plate rolling.
