The relationship between the structure of demulsifiers and demulsifying behavior was studied by investigating the influence of different demulsifiers on the dehydration and interfacial tension of the simulated produced fluids in Gudao oilfield. The result indicated that: the demulsifying behavior of oil soluble demulsifiers are better than water soluble ones and nonionic demulsifiers are superior to ionic or amphoteric ones. The demulsifying behavior is affected by EO/PC value, chain length and branch-chain degree of demulsifier. For the same kind of demulsifiers, dehydration rate is increased with the decreasing of interfacial tension, and the ratio of interfacial tension reduction and dehydration rate is regular: to nonionic demulsifiers, 0.2
