Occlusion is a major problem for object tracking algorithms, especially for subspace-based learning algorithms like PCA. In this paper, we introduce a novel incremental subspace (robust PCA)-based object tracking algorithm to deal with the occlusion problem. The three major contributions of our works are the introduction of robust PCA to object tracking literature, a robust PCA-based occlusion handling scheme and the revised incremental PCA algorithm. In order to handle the occlusion problem in the subspace learning algorithm framework, robust PCA algorithm is employed to select part of image pixels to compute coefficients rather than the whole image pixels as in traditional PCA algorithm, which can successfully avoid the occluded pixels and therefore obtain accurate tracking results. The occlusion handling scheme fully makes use of the merits of robust PCA and can avoid false updates in occlusion, clutter, noisy and other complex situations. Besides, the introduction of incremental PCA facilitates the subspace updating process and possesses several benefits compared with traditional R-SVD-based updating methods. The experiments show that our proposed algorithm is efficient and effective to cope with common object tracking tasks, especially with strong robustness due to the introduction of robust PCA. © 2010 Springer-Verlag London Limited.

A variances handling method for clinical pathway was proposed, which is based on Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy neural networks (FNNs) with random cooperative decomposing particle swarm optimization (RCDPSO). During the process of cooperative co-evolution with random execution sequence, a decomposing algorithm was adopted for the particles with the highest performance, and crossover and mutations were adopted for the particles with the worst performance. Therefore, it not only ensures the convergence rate, but also improves performance of the algorithm in global search. Moreover, the variation disturbing mechanism was introduced to strengthen the diversity of population and avoid plunging into local optimum. Finally, a case study on liver poisoning of osteosarcoma preoperative chemotherapy was used to validate the proposed method. The result demonstrates that T-S FNNs based on the RCDPSO achieves superior performance in prediction and robustness to T-S FNNs based on other algorithms, which makes variances handling of clinical pathway more effective.

Objective To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of JianpiQinghua decoction in treating stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD3) with syndrome type of dampness-heat due to spleen deficiency. Methods A multicenter, randomized, controlled, prospective, double-blind, and double-simulation study was undertaken. A total of 270 CKD3 patients with syndrome type of dampness-heat due to spleen deficiency from the outpatient departments of six general hospitals were randomly divided into telmisartan+analog traditional Chinese medicine (TA) group, traditional Chinese medicine+analog telmisartan (TCMA) group, and telmisartan+traditional Chinese medicine (TTCM) group, in which the corresponding treatment was applied in addition to basic treatment. Six months later, changes in the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinical symptom scores and renal functions before and after treatment were compared among these three groups. Results Of these 270 CKD3 patients who had been enrolled in this study, 30 cases lost to follow-up. The baseline data were comparable among these three groups. After treatment, the TCM clinical symptom scores of both syndrome of spleen-qi deficiency and dampness-heat in TA group were significantly higher than those in TCMA group and TTCM group (P<0.001). With the treatment time prolonged, the TCM clinical symptom scores showed similar descending trends in TCMA group and TTCM group but were different from that in TA group. After treatment, abnormal creatinine rate decreased (P=0.003), and these three treatments and their interactions with each visit had no effect on serum urea nitrogen value (P=0.270, P=0.520); with prolonged treatment, the estimated glomerular filtration rates in three groups tended to be relatively stable after the first rise. The liver function and abnormal serum potassium rate were not statistically significant before and after treatment (P>0.05). Conclusions JianpiQinghua decoction can improve clinical symptoms of TCM in CKD3 patients with syndrome type of dampness-heat due to spleen deficiency and thus improve the quality of life and prognosis. The clinical efficacy of JianpiQinghua decoction alone or combined with telmisartan is superior to telmisartan monotherapy.

Cancer is one of the major diseases threatening human health. It is a thorny problem to isolate cancer cells fast and easily for clinical medical officers and scientific researchers. Combining magnetic bead technology and MEMS technology, Nimicro-magnetic cylinder arranged in an equilateral triangle is designed to capture colon cancer cells using CD326 immunemagnetic beads in magnetic field. In this paper, MEMS cell capturing chip was designed, micro-fabricated, and packaged. Colon cancer cells combined with magnetic beads were captured. The capture efficiency is 92% under 0.1 ml/h velocity, indicating that the chip has the ability to capture cancer cells.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown that there is a controversy between blood supply and the fast fracture fixation. Selection of the suitable fixation method for the patients with tibia and fibula fracture is the important issue in face of every clinician. OBJECTIVE: To review various types of research literatures on tibia and fibula fracture fixation in recent years, in order to provide reference and evaluation criteria for objective and reasonable selection of tibia and fibula fracture fixation method. METHODS: A computer-based online search was performed in the PubMed database and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure database for the clinical and basic experimental research papers on the surgical fixation of tibia and fibula fracture from January 1990 to May 2012. The key words were "tibiofibular fracture, fixation method, research progress" in Chinese and English. The articles published earlier and repetitive researches were excluded. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Due to the special anatomy structure and physiologic function of tibia and fibula, the first step in the treatment of the fracture is to consider how to balance the blood supply and stability, and the functional exercise must be practiced as soon as possible after fixation, which will rely on a stable fixation in a large extent. Various factors for the adequate fixation of tibia and fibula fractures need to be considered, according to the fracture site, tibia and fibula fracture type, the degree of contamination and the degree of soft tissue injury. Strictly implement and understanding of the AO and biological fracture fixation improvement theory is very important. A new range of steel plate and external fixator also worth for study and the application of the external fixator combined with limited internal fixation as well as the sequential therapy require further study with large amount samples. Arthroscopy or arthroplasty for severe cases of replace difficulties or joint injury can effectively improve fracture prognosis and postoperative life. The indirect reduction technique of percutaneous plate osteosynthesis indirect reduction can reduce the poor wound healing, infection, delayed union and nonunion, and it is gradually become the best choice for comminuted fracture of the distal tibia, while with the biological osteosynthesis principle designed locking compression plate equipment to make percutaneous plate osteosynthesis a worth to be promoted fixation technique.

Objective: To explore the clinical effect of chronic osteomyelitis with the treatment of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) and antibiotic bone graft.Methods: Patients with chronic osteomyelitis in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed, for conventional treatment or VSD with antibiotic treatment. The outcomes were compared between VSD group and control group.Results: In control group, the total effective rate was 72.7%, the recurrence rate was 4.3%, the bacteria detection rate was 4.3%, the average healing time was (48.3±2.6) days, and the total hospital stay was (52.2±6.4) days. In VSD group, the total effective rate was 100%, the recurrence rate was 22.7%, the bacteria detection rate was 22.7%, the average healing time was (26.5±4.1) days, and the total length of hospital stay was (35.8±2.7) days. There were statistical differences in the curative effect, the recurrence rate and the length of hospital stay between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion: Vacuum sealing drainage with antibiotic bone graft for the treatment of chronic osteomyelitis showed remarkable clinical effect.

Recent studies have indicated that the therapeutic vaccine based on enhancement of HBV-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) activity may lead to viral clearance in chronically infected individuals. It is demonstrated that protein transduction domains (PTD) from HIV-1-Tat protein is able to enter cells when combined with exogenous antigens and induce specific CTL responses. We have previously testified that the expressed and purified fusion protein containing Tat-PTD47-57 and HBcAg could enter cytoplasm of dendritic cells, and enhance T cells response to generate HBcAg-specific CTLs efficiently in vitro. In the present study, we evaluated HBcAg-specific immune responses of PTD-HBcAg fusion protein in BALB/c mice and antiviral immunity in HBV transgenic mice. The studies showed that PTD-HBcAg not only induced significantly higher antibody responses, but also increased production of cytokine (IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-10) compared to HBcAg alone and PBS. Moreover, PTD-HBcAg fusion protein increased significantly the percentages of IFN-γ+CD8+ T cells and HBcAg-specific (CTL) responses. Also, enhancement of immune response induced by fusion protein reduced HBV DNA and HBsAg levels and decreased the expression of HBsAg in liver tissue of HBV transgenic mice. In conclusion, PTD-HBcAg fusion protein could enhance not only cell immune response but also humoral immune response, and induce robust specific CTL activity and therapeutic effects in HBV transgenic mice. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have the ability to self-renew and differentiate into tissues of mesodermal origin (osteocytes, adipocytes, chondrocytes), and the cellular constituents of the microenvironment, largely derive from a common progenitor of mesenchymal origin. MSC themselves and their large numbers of progeny form three kinds of niches (osteoblastic niche, stromal niche and adipocyte niche) which have a fully competent microenvironment to provide appropriate signals via production of soluble factors and cell contact interactions of adhesion molecules, by which they play the role in supporting haemopoiesis and differentiation. Many of the discoveries described herein may contribute to future clinical treatments for hematopoietic, including cancer.
