Electric vehicle with more advantages of no noise, no pollution, saving energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions is to power-driven vehicle with a motor drive wheels moving. Solar electric vehicle can make to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution. All advantages of solar electric vehicle make research and application of solar electric vehicle as a "hot spot" of automotive industry and the trend of future cars. Solar electric vehicle is made of PV panels, battery, electric motor, vehicle controller and vehicle body. Solar electric vehicle drives using dual-mode of PV and battery hybrid. It can be achieved PV-driven and battery-driven independently. In good sunny conditions, the full charge endurance of solar electric vehicle can be increased about 35% substantially compared with no PV panels. Solar electric vehicle can achieve low-carbon, energy saving, environmental protection and true zero-emissions for the future of human life.

In recent years, greenhouse gas emissions and exhaustion of natural fossil resources have become serious global issue. Renewable energy technologies are being explored to meet the challenges of energy security and climate change. Solar energy is a clean and green renewable source of energy. It is an inevitable option to use photovoltaic effect to directly convert sunlight into electricity. CuIn1-xGaxSe2 (CIGS) thin films were formed from an electrodeposited CuInSe2 (CIS) precursor by thermal processing in vacuum in which the film stoichiometry was adjusted by adding In, Ga and Se. The structure, composition, morphology and opto-electronic properties of the as-deposited and selenized CIS precursors were characterized by various techniques. A 17.2% CIGS based thin film solar cell was developed using the electrodeposited and processed film. The cell structure consisted of Mo/CIGS/CdS/ZnO/MgF2. The cell parameters such as Jsc, Voc, FF and η were determined from I-V characterization of the cell. The solar electric vehicle is made using flexible thin film solar cells. With the solar cell the full charge endurance of SEV can be increased about 35% substantially compared with no solar cells.

The outstanding properties of mercury iodide make it an ideal material as room temperature X-ray and gamma-ray detectors. For this purpose, electrical and irradiation properties of high quality polycrystalline HgI2 detector are investigated at room temperature under irradiation conditions by 5.9 keV X-ray irradiation from a 55Fe source. For (0 0 1)-oriented polycrystalline HgI2 film, the dark current is in the order of 10-10 A and photocurrent is in the order of 10-9 A with the applied voltage of 40 V. However, a good signal to noise ratio of 4.44 and an energy resolution of 4.1% for X-ray detecting is also obtained. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
