La2Ti2O7 crystal has been grown by a high-temperature vertical Bridgman method. The as-grown crystal is about 18 mm× 12 mm× 10 mm in dimensions with a series of (004) cleavage planes on the surface. X-ray rocking curve reveals that the crystal has excellent crystalline quality. Transmission spectra implies the annealed La2Ti2O7 crystal is transparent in visible region and drops down quickly near 800 nm. The optical absorption edge is around 500 nm. Refractive index analysis demonstrates the annealed La2Ti2O7 crystal has high refractive property. The dispersion relation is determined to be n2(λ) =4.61643+0.16198/ (λ2-0.01547)-0.47201λ2 which can be used to calculate the refractive index n value at any wavelength in the range of 300-1680 nm.

The phosphors BaMgAl10O17: Eu3+ were synthesized by solid state reaction method assisted by flux. The optical properties of BaMgAl10O17: Eu3+ were investigated. The effects of flux on calcination temperature, structure and luminescent properties of the sample were analyzed. The results show that BaMgAl10O17: Eu3+ phosphor is hexagonal crystal structure. The synthesis temperature is 300℃ lower than that of conventional solid state method. The phosphors can be effectively excited by near-UV(394 nm), and the major peak is located at 612 nm ascribed to the electric-dipole 5D0→7F2 transition of Eu3+. The rare earth Eu3+ are located in the noncentrosymmetric sites. The CIE chromaticity coordinate of BaMgAl10O17: Eu3+ is (0.655, 0.345), suggesting that the sample possesses high color purity and show reddish orange color. High purity YFe1-xCrxO3(0≤x≤0.2) nanocrystals were prepared by a fast and low temperature sol-gel auto combustion method, using citric acid as the fuel. The effect of Cr3+ doping on the YFeO3 structure and magnetic properties were studied by XRD, SEM and VSM. The results show that the pure orthohombic peroskite phase of YFe1-xCrxO3 were obtained with lower calcination temperature, unit cell parameters of YFe1-xCrxO3 is smaller than that of YFeO3, which is attributed to the smaller ion radius of Cr3+. Pure YFeO3 shows typical ferromagnetic behavior. When Cr3+ is introduced, the saturated magnetization effectively decrease and the paramagnetic coupling is strengthened, which is mainly caused by the weakening super-exchange interactions between neighboring Fe3+. ©, 2014, Chinese Ceramic Society.
