In order to avoid stimulated Brillouin scattering and smooth the final focal spot that reaches the D-T capsule, spectral broadening is essential. However, the modulation of spectral structure might result in frequency-to-amplitude modulation (FM-to-AM) conversion. The spatial filter pinhole is used to cut off the high-frequency transmission laser, and to ensure the desired pass. Improper parameter of pinhole would lead a negative impact. Using the spatial filter pinhole, we analyze the characteristic of intensity modulation using several pinholes of improper parameters. We then compare these results with the intensity modulation obtained from an experiment. Experimental diagnosis and design of an appropriate pinhole parameter would be highly beneficial to the field of high-power lasers. © 2012 Chinese Optics Letters. Source

We report on a study on the correlation between the photoluminescence and the photoelectrochemical properties of ZnO-TiO2 heterogeneous nanostructure composed of anatase TiO2 nanotubes and wurtzite ZnO coatings. Vertically aligned ZnO coated TiO2 nanotube (ZnO/TiO 2 NT) arrays have been fabricated by atomic layer deposition of ZnO coatings on electrochemical anodization formed TiO2 nanotubes. The obtained ZnO/TiO2 NT arrays show higher photoresponse to shorter wavelength light than to longer wavelength light. A reduction in photoluminescence and an enhancement in photoelectrochemical activity are observed for annealed ZnO/TiO2 NT arrays. ZnO/TiO2 NTs with thinner ZnO coatings rather than thicker ZnO coatings have better photoelectrochemical properties. Compared with bare TiO2 NT arrays, an increase in photocurrent of about 50 percent is obtained for the arrays of 450 C annealed of ZnO/TiO2 NTs with 10-cycle deposition of ZnO coatings under visible illumination with cutoff of 420 nm. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Lens array is always used to improve the uniformity of far field spatial intensity distribution on a high power laser system. This article introduces the simulated annealing algorithm into an optimal design of lens array, which changes the size and lens attributes of array elements, and finally reduces the ununiformity of the focal speckle from 0.2268 which is measured with a classical design to 0.1202 under the condition that the energy efficiency is satisfied, this shows that the optimal design greatly improves the uniformity. The curves of power spectral density of two speckle are also contrasted to research the impact of different design structures on it. Source

We propose and demonstrate an object-image-grating self-tiling method for doubling the effective aperture of a grating by tiling it with its image to form an object-image-grating pair. With the aid of the object-image relation, the line-density variation, angular tip, and longitudinal piston errors within a tiled grating no longer exist. The method helps achieve and maintain a near-ideal tiled grating by using a simple far-field method. Because one tiled grating requires only one beam line, a single probe laser can be used for first-installation adjustments and long-term maintenance monitoring, with no wavelength or incident angle limitations. © 2010 zptical Society of America.
