By using a surface treatment agent on the surface of calcium carbonate, discussed the variation of the specific surface area of the calcium carbonate during the grinding process, determined the added amount and added time of the dispersing agent, and researched on the grinding effect. According to the changes about the specific surface area of the grinding calcium carbonate particles, compared with the different effects that added the uniform dispersant and added the corresponding needs dispersant, had the particle size relationship followed the change of the specific surface area, reach to the purpose that refine the particle size and get a narrower particle size distribution. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland. Ultra-fine calcium carbonate is widely used in construction, manufacturing and other fields. Ultrafine grinding is the central preparation technology of calcium carbonate powder in recent years. A new ultra-fine grinding kinetics model has been developed for the wet stirred mill by using population balance equation, and the non-first-order breakage kinetics has been demonstrated. The transition from the dominant mechanism of particle breakage to the balanced state of breakage, that is, aggregation and disaggregation, is investigated, which can be treated as the optimal operating conditions for the whole process. Moreover, compared with the measured size distribution of the products, the simulated values by the new kinetics equation are more accurate to predict the products. The optimal grinding time of calcium carbonate by the laboratory wet stirred mill is about 2 h. This investigation is valuable to the simulation and optimisation of the industrial ultra-fine grinding processes of calcium carbonate materials. © W. S. Maney & Son Ltd 2015. Source

Using scanning electron microscope, the microscopic pictures of the surface on sediment have been obtained from the sub-micron titanium dioxide suspensions without dispersant or adding different types of dispersants. Deposits of titanium dioxide suspension have been observed and the mechanism of the dispersant has been analyzed. Meanwhile, deposits of titanium dioxide gray distribution figure have been gained by self-compiled Matlab program, which proved that the surface sediments is fractal, and the fractal dimension has been calculated under different conditions.
