The Universal Crown Control Mill (UCM) was applied to a PL-TCM (Pickling Line-Tandem Cold Mill). High-order buckles, single edge wave on Drive Side (DS), lace wave and other strip shape defects occurred during rolling processes. These defects not only affect the quality of products, but also the productivity. There are many factors including the materials and technology factors affecting the strip shape, and these factors are complex. In order to eliminate shape defects, a lot of plant tests have been carried out. Based on the analysis of the production and measured strip shape data considering the synthetic control of hot coil materials, processing parameters, equipment, electrical control and management system, and the adjustment and optimization of the rolling process, the strip shape defect was successfully solved in this study. The accuracy of shape control was also ensured to meet the users' demands. This work can provide a control reference for UCM cold rolling tandem mill. © 2011 American Scientific Publishers. Source

How to solve the problem of disorderly strip wrapping on a Carrousel coiler used for a PL-TCM unit in China was investigated. The forces acted on the coiler in its coiling process was analyzed, thus revealing that the disorderly strip wrapping is essentially because of the internal bending stress of strip between the last mill stand and the coiler. Discussing the reason why the internal bending stress forms in strip, the problem of disorderly strip wrapping was solved via the mechanical measures taken appropriately. On the other hand, the quantitative relationship between the angular acceleration of the big rotating disc as a past of the coiler and its angular position during rotation was analyzed with the intention of providing theoretically the reference and solution to improve the stability of dynamic control of the coiling tension in the process of rotation of the big rotating disc. This self-integration of Meishan 1420 pickle line coupled to tandem mill plant was the first project carried out on its own EIC control system integration. Its technology and equipment with a world-class standard, its EIC control system useed an advanced, mature and reliable EIC configuration and control technology. The ECI control system was consisted of processes integrated computer control system (referred to as L2), a basic automation control system (referred to as L1), operations monitoring system (HMI), network equipment and on-site inspection sensors and the implementation of electrical equipment (referred to as LO).
