Described are a test apparatus and a test method for the wetted perimeter of coal seam water injection. In the test apparatus, a columnar insulator is provided between an upper electrode and a lower electrode, circular insulating tapes are located at the outer edges of the upper electrode and the lower electrode, a circular reverse osmosis membrane is provided at the middle of the circular insulating tape, the upper electrode, lower electrode, circular insulating tapes and circular reverse osmosis membrane form an enclosed chamber which is filled with solid sodium chloride, and cotton yarns are packed among the upper resin backing plate, lower resin backing plate, circular insulating tapes and the inner walls of water permeable perforated pipes. The upper electrode is provided with an electrode lead which passes through the columnar insulator, the lower electrode and the lower resin backing plate and goes out from the tail connecting end.

In this study, flutter and aeroelastic responses of rotor blade with bending-torsional coupling have been investigated for composite thin-walled structure called ‘integration line equation closed-section’. The aerodynamic models adopted here are a simple aerodynamic model used for classical flutter and a reduced nonlinear aerodynamic model suitable for constant pitch motion for stall flutter, which are used in order to investigate quickly parameters that influence the behavior of the aeroelastic system. The support resistance of surrounding rock in deep tunnels is determined by the pressure and displacement of surrounding rock obtained by theoretical calculations and the relationship between the support and displacement analyzed by the P-U figure. The range of the support resistance can be determined based on the quantitative calculation of pressure and displacement of the surrounding rock of the deep tunnel, and the support scheme and schedule can be selected considering the relationship between the surrounding rock and support in the P-U figure. This method has been applied to the support of the pump chamber of the Longgu coal mine, and the results show that: (1) The calculated pressure and displacement of the surrounding rock conform with engineering practice and the reasonable range of support resistance of a pump chamber is 4 ~ 6MPa; (2) The support scheme and schedule can be determined based on the support resistances and P-U figure; (3) The achievements have been successfully applied to coal mine engineering.

In the present work, the entransy and entransy dissipation are defined from the thermodynamic point of view. It is shown that the entransy is a state variable and can be employed to describe the second law of thermodynamics. For heat conduction, a principle of minimum entransy dissipation is established based on the second law of thermodynamics in terms of entransy dissipation, which leads to the governing equation of the steady Fourier heat conduction without heat source. Furthermore, we derive the expressions of the entransy dissipation in duct flows and heat exchangers from the second law of thermodynamics, which paves the way for applications of the entransy dissipation theory in heat exchanger design. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd.

Conductive polymers are widely studied as microwave absorbing materials due to their light weight, corrosion resistance, good and flexible processibility and variability of conductivity. Among them, polyaniline (PANI) microwave absorbing materials have been studied most extensively because of their easier and inexpensive preparation methods, good environmental stability in both doped and undoped forms, excellent physical and chemical properties, high conductivity at microwave frequencies and unique doping mechanism with its ease of protonic acid doping in the emeraldine form. A variational principle for heat conduction is formulated which results in the steady state heat conduction equation established from the Fourier law. Furthermore based on the thermodynamics in terms of entransy a more general functional is defined for incompressible fluids. We show that extremizing this functional gives rise to the state described by the Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations with vanishing substantive derivatives of the temperature and velocity field. In this sense one may conclude that this variational principle is consistent with the Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations. Therefore the variational principle developed in the present work demonstrates a great advantage over the minimum entropy production principle. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.

Region of Interest (ROI) extraction is a crucial step in an automatic finger vein recognition system. The aim of ROI extraction is to decide which part of the image is suitable for finger vein feature extraction. This paper proposes a finger vein ROI extraction method which is robust to finger displacement and rotation. First, we determine the middle line of the finger, which will be used to correct the image skew. Then, a sliding window is used to detect the phalangeal joints and further to ascertain the height of ROI. Last, for the corrective image with certain height, we will obtain the ROI by using the internal tangents of finger edges as the left and right boundary. The experimental results show that the proposed method can extract ROI more accurately and effectively compared with other methods, and thus improve the performance of finger vein identification system. Besides, to acquire the high quality finger vein image during the capture process, we propose eight criteria for finger vein capture from different aspects and these criteria should be helpful to some extent for finger vein capture.

This paper introduces an H-representation method to express an n 2×1 vector X as X =H ∼X. Based on the introduced H-representation approach, several topics are extensively discussed, including the generalized Lyapunov equations (GLEs) arising from stochastic control, stochastic observability, generalized D-stability and D-stabilization, weak stability, and stabilization. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence and uniqueness of the symmetric and skew-symmetric solutions of GLEs is presented, respectively. Moreover, the solution structure of GLEs is also clarified. Through the H-representation method, several necessary and sufficient conditions are also obtained for stochastic observability, generalized D-stability and D-stabilization, weak stability, and stabilization. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
