Due to the outstanding mechanical properties, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered to offer the probability to enhance the properties of high-performance cementitious composites, and to reduce ecological cost of construction materials. Recent work in the area of concrete materials research has shown the potentiality of improving concrete properties by adjusting the mic-structure of cement hydrates, addition of nanotubes and controlling the delivery of admixtures. In this study, the multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were effectively dispersed in the water solution by applying ultrasonic energy. The results show that small amount of effectively dispersed MWCNTs can visible increase the strength of the cementitious matrix. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The facility layout design is the key problem in manufacturing system. Based on the constraints such as the cost of facility logistics and the space of equipment, this paper sets up a Quadratic Assignment Problem model of facility layout. The model is solved using Differential Evolution algorithm according to the features of facility layout, which is combined with Random Key technology. The test results performed on the liner and circular layout show the proposed approach can solve effectively the facility layout design problem. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

We have developed a novel planar interdigital sensing system: using a microcontroller and local fabricated circuits with dual supply and signal processing for data acquisition. The first prototype is called seafood inspection tool or SIT consist of a SiLab C8051F020 microcontroller, a signal processing circuit, novel planar interdigital sensor, an expansion board and dual power supply circuit. A user friendly software was also developed to make SIT easy to be used by users who has a little technical knowledge. SIT was developed to be tested by the fisherman who can do a pre-screening process of the mussels at their ranch site.Our main objective is to sense the presence of dangerous contaminated acid in mussels and other seafoods. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Since the eddy current has the characteristics of skin effect, the rotor of the rotational tubby eddy current brake was divided into the heat zone and non-heat zone in the transient thermal analysis. The eddy current and heat generation mainly concentrated in the heat zone, not evenly distributed in the whole rotor due to the skin effect. Based on the Energy Conservation Law, heat generation rate which imposed on the finite element nodes of the heat zone could be derived from the braking power. The heat transfer manners between both zones and between the rotor and ambient were analyzed. The transient thermal analysis formulae of both zones were built on the basis of the Heat Transfer Theory. How to discrete these formulae and how to deal with boundary conditions, initial condition and the heat generation rate were studied explicitly. Finally, the radial distribution of the rotor transient temperature and the variation of rotor surface temperature with time were calculated by the finite element. Experiment showed that theoretical calculation basically coincided with the experimental in the period of temperature rise. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.

by using optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (sem), for minitype automobile driving axle half shaft fracture piece of organization and the fracture characteristic is analyzed and the results show that the axle shaft of conditioning treatment in the quenching temperature high enough, make its surface and center organization exists in the group more ferrite, caused the artifacts of the final hardness and fatigue strength is insufficient, led to the use of half shaft torsional fatigue fracture. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
