Droplet microfluidics technology is recently a highly interesting platform in material fabrication. Droplets can precisely monitor and control entire material fabrication processes and are superior to conventional bulk techniques. Droplet production is controlled by regulating the channel geometry and flow rates of each fluid. The micro-scale size of droplets results in rapid heat and mass-transfer rates. When used as templates, droplets can be used to develop reproducible and scalable microparticles with tailored sizes, shapes and morphologies, which are difficult to obtain using traditional bulk methods. This technology can revolutionize material processing and application platforms. Generally, microparticle preparation methods involve three steps: (1) the formation of micro-droplets using a microfluidics generator; (2) shaping the droplets in micro-channels; and (3) solidifying the droplets to form microparticles. This review discusses the production of microparticles produced by droplet microfluidics according to their morphological categories, which generally determine their physicochemical properties and applications. © 2017 by the authors.

Taking the industrial pleuromutilin fermentation with strain Pleurotus mutilus as an example, the variations of small molecule metabolomes in different industrial fermentation processes were analyzed. The small molecule metabolomes in different processes were measured by gas chromatography coupled to time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Principal component analysis(PCA)was performed on the metabolome of P. mutilus. According to the score plot and loading plot obtained by PCA, the similarities and differences of metabolism of P. mutilus in two processes were extracted and classified. The analysis on characteristic metabolites indicated significant effects of different processes on cell viabilities. The higher level of TCA cycle intermediates and amino acids during the seed culture stage in the process two indicated higher carbon and nitrogen metabolism in P. mutilus before the inoculation. In addition, the analysis of the variations of metabolites during the two different fermentation processes suggested that nutrition utilization efficiency of P. mutilus in process two was higher than that in process one. This study indicates that metabolome analysis could be a new approach to evaluating the industrial bioprocess and is helpful in providing the feasible regulation scheme to improve the fermentation process. © All Rights Reserved.

A new chemiluminescence (CL) system based on the CL-emitting reaction between potassium tetrabromoaurate (III) [Au(III)] and luminol in alkaline medium is described in this paper. On the basis of this study, folic acid (FA) could dramatically enhance CL intensities, and incorporated with flow injection (FI) and solid-phase extraction (SPE), the novel CL system has been applied for the determination of FA in infant formula milk powder. Under optimum conditions, the CL intensities were linearly related to the concentration of FA in the range of 8.0 × 10-8 to 4.0 × 10-5 g/L with a correlation coefficient of 0.999, and the detection limit was 2.0 × 10-8 g/L. The relative standard deviation was 3.5% for 1.0 × 10-6g/L FA. The optimal conditions for the detection of FA were evaluated, and the interferences from some common inorganic ions and a couple of relevant organic compounds were also investigated. © 2011 Institute of Food Technologists®.

Two new coordination polymers [Ni(2,4'-oba)(1,10-phen)] n (1) and {[Ni(2,4'-Hoba) 2 (4,4'-bipy)(H 2O) 2]2H 2O} n(2) have been synthesized [2,4-H 2oba=2-(4- carboxyphenoxy)benzoic acid, 1,10-phen=1,10-phenanthroline and 4,4'-bipy=4,4-bipyridine]. The framework structures of these polymeric complexes have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Complex 1 exhibits double-helical chains formed by π-π stacking interactions from the phenyl rings of the 1,10-phen ligands. Complex 2 forms a two-dimensional supramolecular architecture directed by hydrogen bonding. In compounds 1 and 2, the oba 2 ligands exhibit two coordination modes to link metal ions: bidentate chelating and monodenate modes. Copyright © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

The study on food safety traceability system in China started from 2002. During the study and implementation, some related standards and guides have been gradually made, many traceable foods and traceable enterprises were created and a series of traceability subsystems were developed. This paper introduces the importance of food safety traceability system construction, the present construction situation in China and the food safety traceability platform by bar code, deeply analyzes the existing problems and puts forward some advices. It shows that a sound food traceability system has been built in China and tends to maturate. It provides the reference for food safety traceability system construction in developing countries. © 2010 IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

One new zinc compound [Zn(L)(H2O)3]r (1) (H2L = 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid) has been successfully synthesized. Compound shows a one-dimensional framework. The 3D supramolecular structure is formed via hydrogen bonding connection.
