Two environmentally friendly succinic acid monofluoroalkyl sulfonate surfactants were synthesized from maleic anhydride and polyethylene glycol mono (1 H,1 H,7 H-dodecafluoroheptyl) ether, i.e. H(CF 2) 6CH 2OCH 2CH 2OCOCH(SO 3Na)CH 2COOH (FEOS-1) and H(CF 2) 6CH 2(OCH 2CH 2) 3OCOCH(SO 3Na)CH 2COOH (FEOS-3). The obtained surfactants were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 19F NMR in detail. The synthesized fluorinated surfactants have a high thermal stability on the basis of thermogravimetric analysis. Their surface properties were examined and the results show that FEOS-1 and FEOS-3 surfactants can reduce the surface tension of water to 25.55 mN m -1 at 10.25 mmol L -1 and 21.63 mN m -1 at 8.33 mmol L -1, respectively; meanwhile, the introduction of oxyethylene groups enhances the hydrophilicity and micellar forming ability and the longer oxyethylene chains the better surface properties. The Krafft points (K p) of FEOS-1 and FEOS-3 were both below 0 °C, which was lower than perfluoro-n-heptanesulfonic acid sodium salt (n-C 7F 15SO 3Na, K p = 56.5 °C) at a similar length of fluorocarbon chains. Comparison studies on two surfactants above and the conventional fluorocarbon surfactants, perfluorooctanoate of ammonium (PFOA) show that the surfactants have comparable properties to PFOA, thus offering an environmentally friendly synthesizing alternatives to PFOA. © 2012 AOCS.

4-Hydroxythiophenol (HTP) grafted poly(styrene-b-acrylic acid) (PS-b-PAA) block copolymers (BCPs) (PS-b-PAA-g-HTP) was synthesized using the esterification reaction between the carboxyl groups and hydroxyl groups. Self-assembly behavior of the graft copolymer in 1,4-dioxane/water was investigated. Assemblies of different morphologies, porous, and bowl-shaped structures, could be easily prepared. A possible mechanism for the formation of the porous and bowl-shaped structures was discussed. The present study showed a facile method for the preparation of functionalized PS-b-PAA BCPs, which could easily self-assembly into novel structures in aqueous solution. These assemblies may be used to generate new functional materials. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

In this study, aluminum nitride (h-AlN) nanotubes with high crystallinity and yield have been prepared by AlP and NaN3 in a stainless steel autoclave at 350 °C. The samples were studied by powder X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and HRTEM in detail. The lengths of the AlN nanotubes are about 1 μm with most of the tube ends are open. The AlN nanotube preferentially grow along the [001] direction. The results demonstrate that the bending and roll-up of a thin layer to form tubular nanoscrolls is a thermally driven process. One-dimensional preferential growth was explained in terms of the crystallographic feature of hexagonal AlN. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A technical condition for the reaction of preparing superabsorbent by orthogonal test was investigated. Test results were as follows: reaction temperature was 30°C, reaction time was 2 h, monomer ratio is 0.045, monomer was 12 g, neutralization degree was 90%, initiator concentration was 0.167 wt% and crosslinker concentration was 0.0125 wt%. The maximum of distilled water absorbency was 699 times, the maximum of 0.9% saline water absorbency was 70 times. Analysis from FTIR and SEM showed that starch grafting with acrylic acid and acrylamide was successful, while a three-dimensional network structure was formed in superabsorbent. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The aqueous solution polymerization methods were used for the synthesis of superabsorbent resin. The effects of different experimental factors on synthetic resin water absorbency were investigated in this paper. The variables examined in this study included monomer concentration, neutralization degree, initiator and crosslinker concentration, reaction temperature and time, etc. The maximum absorbencies of distilled and 0.9% saline water are 919 times and 92 times respectively under optimum condition. Analysis from FTIR and SEM shown the polymer molecules can be firmly fixed with kaolin, the bonding of kaolin and polymer is good in CSR. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications.

The maximum of distilled water absorbency is 387 times, the maximum of 0.9% saline water absorbency is 45 times. Analysis from FTIR and SEM showed that starch grafting with acrylic acid was success, and a three-dimensional network structure was formed in superabsorbent. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications.

A novel chemiluminescence (CL) sensor for the determination of glyphosate (GLY) was made up based on molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). The molecularly imprinted microspheres (MIMs) with a small dimension which possess extremely high surface-to-volume ratio were synthesized using precipitation polymerization with GLY as template. And then the MIMs were modified on glass sheets, which were placed at the bottom of wells of microplate as the recognizer. Subsequently, a highly selective and high throughput chemiluminescence (CL)-molecular imprinting (MI) sensor for detection of GLY was achieved. Influencing factors were investigated and optimized in detail. The method can perform 96 independent measurements sequentially in 10 min and the limit of detection (LOD) for GLY was 0.046 μg mL -1. The relative standard deviation (RSD) for 11 parallel measurements of GLY was 4.68%. The results show that CL-MI sensor can become a useful analytical technology for quick molecular recognition. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A free-standing calcium alginate ( CA ) hydrogel filtration membrane was prepared using polyethylene glycol ( PEG ) as the pore-forming agent. The surface morphology of the filtration membrane was studied through SEM and digital photos. The relationships between flux and compression ratio mechanical behavior of the filtration membranes were studied. The effects of the concentrations of sodium alginate ( SA ) and polyethylene glycol on the pure water flux ( PWF ) and filtration properties of lysozyme ( Lyz ) solutions were investigated. Results showed that CA filtration membrane prepared using a low SA concentration and a high PEG concentration had a high flux and compression rate. The PWF increased with increase in the pressure initially and then reached a stable value. The fluxes of Lyz and bovine serum albumin ( BSA ) solutions were 89.97% and 94.6% of the PWF respectively indicating that the CA filtration membrane exhibited good anti-fouling properties. The filtration performance of the membranes was also evaluated using an oil-water emulsion and the flux was 93.04% of the PWF with a rejection rate of 99.85% . The rejection of CA filtration membranes prepared with PEG of different molecular weight was characterized by rejecting solutions of PEG with different molecular weight. The results showed that the rejection of PEG with the molecular weight bigger than that of the pore ?forming agent reached above 90%. Dyes rejection studies conducted that the free-standing membrane prepared with low molecular weight of PEG can achieve the rejection rate of brilliant blue G250 as high as 99.75% and can be used as a nano-filtration membrane.
