Collaborative meaning construction is one of the key issues in computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) research. This substantially is a practical social group activity within a social and cultural context. For the purposes of a case study, the analytical framework from activity theory was applied to the network curricular activities of the China-Britain e-learning research project. The relationships between the various elements in the collaborative meaning construction activity were analysed. This revealed that the subjects conducted meaning construction using a variety of products and tools to act on the objects under the influence of culture, rules, and the division of labour, as well as other factors. © 2015 WIETE.

The online course is the core of the construction of distance educational and teaching resources, and it is the foundation to meet the needs of different levels and different types of learners. The optimisation of online courses' quality is significant to realise educational equity, and to meet learners' needs of autonomous learning. A four-stage evaluation model, which includes diagnostic evaluation, process evaluation, summative evaluation, and feedback evaluation, is proposed in this paper to guarantee the development and realisation of high quality online courses. Based on Anindya Roy's research, this paper suggests a new kind of speech signal feature: second-order weighted Mel Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients by introducing the method of weighted filter bank analysis. It also studies the weighted factor in the process of obtaining the Inverted Mel Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients and presents the optimal weighted factor. The result of the experiments shows that this new parameter is more robust, and can be applied to generic speech recognition system. © 2012 IEEE.

Based on traditional MFCC feature, this paper suggests a new kind of speech signal feature: CMFCC by introducing the method of nonlinear properties. Simulation results indicate that the method has a strong robust to noise and is able to enhance the recognition rate under low SNR. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
