The paper presents experimental results showing the possibility of liquid-phase epitaxy with a pulse-cooled substrate nano-heteroepitaxial structures with Ge quantum dots and GaP matrix for production of single-junction solar cells working under sun light concentration. The preparation of the surface of Si wafers suitable for growing of these structures is described. The optimal technological conditions for growing of the of GaP buffer layer on the Si wafer from supersaturated solutions of melts Sn are applied. Structures with Ge quantum dots are grown at different conditions and study of their structural and optical properties is performed. The surface morphology of the grown materials is studied by AFM microscopy. The photoluminescence spectra of nano-heteroepitaxial structures with Ge quantum dots are presented and analyzed. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper, the governing equations for non-linear free vibration of truncated, thin, laminated, orthotropic conical shells using the theory of large deformations with the Karman-Donnell-type of kinematic nonlinearity are derived. Applying superposition principle and Galerkin's method, these equations are reduced to a time dependent non-linear differential equation. The frequency-amplitude relationship for the laminated orthotropic thin truncated conical shell is obtained using the method of weighted residuals. In the particular case, we can obtain the similar relationships for the single-layer and laminated orthotropic cylindrical shells, also. The influence played by geometrical parameters of the conical shell and physical parameters of the laminate (i.e. material properties, staking sequences and number of layers) on the non-linear vibration behavior of the conical shell is examined. It is noticed that the non-linear vibration of shells is highly dependent on laminate characteristics and, from these observations, it is concluded that specific configurations of laminates should be designed for each kind of application. The paper provides results from numerical simulation of a regular spray system, jet Spray Coolers (JSC), and their effect on pressure and temperature decrease in WWER containments in case of the maximum design basis accident. The RALAP5/MOD3.4 and MELCOR 1.8.5 computer codes are used to determine the flow rates of steam-water mixture supplied to the containment in leaks.

Measurements of particulate and dissolved 234Th were carried out in March 2002 in the Bransfield Strait located between the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands. The 234Th/238U disequilibrium found in the upper water column has allowed evaluation of downward particle fluxes across a frontal zone, which divides water masses coming from the Bellingshausen Sea and the Weddell Sea. The highest particle flux has been found in this mixing zone, where it was 3-5 times greater than in the adjacent waters. Total mass fluxes in the upper 150-m water column were estimated as about 2.2 g m-2 day-1 in the eastern part of the Strait and 3.1 g m-2 day-1 in the western area. © 2013 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

A set of new sorbent were obtained by impregnation different amounts of endoreceptor dibenzo-18-crown-6 in the styrene–divinylbenzene polymer matrix “Porolas-T”. Physical and chemical parameters of strontium sorption on a natural mixture of isotopes from nitric acid solutions were investigated, namely isotherm of sorption, dependence of the distribution coefficient on the concentration of nitric acid in a solution and concentration of crown ether in the sorbent, kinetics of sorption and desorption of strontium. The selectivity of strontium sorption was studied to the alkaline, alkaline-earth metals and cobalt. The sorption properties of sorbent were examined to extraction of radioactive 90Sr. © 2014, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

The safety operation of NPPs substantially depends on efficiency of the operator's management system. The National Nuclear Operator "Energoatom" successfully completed the development and certification of an integrated management system to comply with the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 international standards. In this regard, it has become important to ensure greater effectiveness of internal audits as an integral part or the continuous improvement process. Several approaches have been suggested for planning of internal audits and preserving the experience of personnel at South Ukraine NPP.

It is often necessary to measure the thermal neutron flux density to determine the distribution of the flux density along the radius and height of the research reactor core and heat assembly cross-section as well as in irradiating devices. For these purposes special metrological activation sets and thermal activation sets comprising detectors of pure gold have previously been used. At present such sets are unavailable in Ukraine and there is a problem of measuring thermal neutron flux density in research reactors. The author offers to use detectors made of gold leaf which are as effective as gold ones.
