In a further aspect, the invention provides a method for selecting a lettuce plant with improved resistance to Bremia lactucae, comprising: a) crossing an elite lettuce plant of the invention with itself or with a second lettuce plant of a different genotype to produce one or more progeny plants; and b) selecting a progeny plant comprising said introgression.
