A technology is developed for automatically determining the heat content of ladles. The technology is augmented by the Drying and Heating system. Their use makes it possible to accomplish the following based on relatively inexpensive equipment: stabilize the technological regimes and realize substantial monetary savings by eliminating the unnecessary heating and cooling of heats; reduce the number of heats that are returned because the temperature of the metal is too low; increase the productivity of the continuous caster by reducing the amount of metal that has to be reheated; lengthen the service life of the refractories and reduce unit fuel consumption. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
