The dependences of the coefficients of friction, wear rates, and temperatures of the friction pair steel-polyurethane filled with powders of nonferrous metals on the friction path and load are studied. Polyurethane was filled with copper, tin bronze, zinc, and babbit powders. The tribological characteristics were investigated at different concentrations of the fillers in polyurethane and different particle sizes of the fillers. Secondary structures on the friction surfaces are examined and the relationship between the structure and composition of the secondary structures with the tribological characteristics is analyzed. © 2013 Allerton Press, Inc.

A method is proposed for improving the wear resistance of current collectors in high-speed electrified transport by shaping them aerodynamically. In this case, the rate of nonspontaneous topochemichal reactions with the production of negative entropy on friction surfaces increases. This helps to lower the wear rate of sliding electric contacts. © 2012 Allerton Press, Inc.

The main directions and the first results of developing friction modifiers for a rail-freight car wheel system are presented. A model for calculating forces of rolling friction with longitudinal and lateral creep is proposed. The relative slip and the thermal state of the contact zone are assessed. The concept of developing modifiers is presented and results of laboratory tribotests of steel specimens with one of the variants of modifying coatings are presented. © 2013 Allerton Press, Inc.
