Rare accidental laceration of major abdominal vessels during lumbar disc surgery is a serious complication. When it occurs can be sudden and life threatening. A 40-yr-old woman, operated on for an L4-L5 disc hernia, developed cardiovascular collapse after disc removal. This was treated with volume replacement and ephedrine, and surgery was hastened. On turning the patient supine there was abdominal distension, on opening there was a large retroperitoneal haematoma. During laparotomy, a laceration of the common iliac artery and both right and left iliac veins was repaired and massive blood loss replaced. The patient made a full recovery. In unexpected hypotension during lumbar laminectomy, accidental vascular damage should be suspected and treated immediately.

Ruptured ectopic pregnancy is an emergency surgery in which mostly the patient is in severe shock preoperatively. The outcome is excellent in these patients inspite of poor hemodynamics as the vitals pick up dramatically on ligation of the fallopian tube during salpingooopherctomy. In this case report we present a rare case of bilateral ectopic pregnancy which was diagnosed on the table due to the presence of active ooze inspite of attending to the tubal rupture on the right side.

Advanced Lipid Profile testing is a combination of laboratory investigations which provides a more direct and detailed lipid subfraction measurements. Some studies have claimed that this additional information on lipids could improve the ability to predict the risk assessment of cardiovascular disease from 40% (existing biochemical investigations) to more than 90% (advanced lipid profile testing ). Some of these tests include LDL phenotyping , Vertical auto profile test , Nuclear magnetic resonance test, Lipoprotein(a), Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2. These additional biomarkers may offer a way to further evaluate the residual risk and could become secondary treatment targets to further lower risk.

Pheochromocytoma is pharmacologically volatile, potentially lethal catecholamine containing tumour of chromaffin tissues [1]. These tumours are rare and especially extra adrenal pheochromocytoma is very rare. In this case report, we present a case of multiple extra adrenal pheochromocytoma which was operated for, and had a rare post-operative complication.

This is a cross sectional study done in a rural area to determine the prevelance of contraceptive useage among women of reproductive age group. To estimate the prevalence of contraception among women of reproductive age. A predesigned pretested profoma was used and data collected through a face to face interview method. Data's were analysed through SPSS version 17 software. The prevalence of contraception is 85.6% about 14.1% of the study participant were not following any contraception method which have to be concentrated by improving the knowledge level about the merits of small family norms in the community.

This is a cross sectional study done in an urban health centre on pregnant mothers who attend their antenatal clinic. To estimate the prevalence of knowledge on anaemia among pregnant mothers.A predesigned pretested profoma was used and data collected through a face to face interview method. Data's were analysed through SPSS version 17 software. The prevalence of knowledge about anaemia is 19.3% (52). The study participant had a very poor level of knowledge about anaemia. Improvement in the knowledge level among the most vulnerable group is very important to decrease the prevalence of anaemia among the community.

This study aims to address possible association between over usage of mobile phones and their effect on health, psychology and social participation of individuals and groups. We have tried to find out how arts and science students use their mobile phones during college hours and offcollege hours and what effect this has left on their health. The method of the study focuses on mobile phone dependency of 150 arts and science students who use mobile phones for calls, messaging and for internet surfing and suing the social media on their mobile phones. Statistical analysis shows that there is acute dependency of the students on mobile phones with symptoms of sleeplessness and stress disorders, distraction and decrease in social interaction. The study has made an association between the critical aspects of health, psychology and social stress and over use of mobile phones. Further studies would be needed to find out the use of mobile phone by students which minimize the ill effects.

Diabetes Mellitus is a predominant public health concern, affecting millions of people worldwide. Recently, it has been recognized that, increased body iron stores are associated with Type-2diabetes mellitus. Increased Serum Ferritin have been reported to negatively correlate with insulin sensitivity and the presence of insulin resistance syndrome. The relationship between iron metabolism and type 2 diabetes mellitus is bi-directional. Iron affects glucose metabolism and glucose metabolism impinges on several iron metabolic processes. Iron overload decreases insulin sensitivity and cause earlier complications in diabetes mellitus. This study attempts to evaluate the significance of serum ferritin level as an early predictor of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its relationship with HbA1c.

This study was carried out in 60 adult ASA 1 & ASA 11 patients. to compare the sensory and motor blockade using plain Bupivacaine with normal saline(placebo) versus Plain Bupivacaine with dexmedetomidine. It was found that dexmedetomidine with bupivacaine in spinal anesthesia prolongs to the duration of sensory and motor bloc kade also the time interval required for supplemental analgesia.
