Introduction: The Moyer’s mixed dentition analysis forms an essential part of diagnostic procedures to determine adequacy of the space available for the erupting permanent teeth. However, its reliability among different racial groups has been questioned. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to test the reliability of Moyer’s method and to produce new regression equation for Bangalore population for predicting the mesiodistal diameters of the unerupted permanent canines and premolars. Materials and Methods: Data was collected from study models of 400 randomly selected Bangalore subjects aged 13 to 16 years with fully erupted, intact dentitions and no significant malocclusion. The mesiodistal widths of the incisors, canines and premolars of both arches were measured. This data was then utilized to predict the mesiodistal widths of canines and premolars and further compared with Moyer’s table. Conclusion: It was found that 50% is more applicable to boys and 75% to girls. The canine premolar segment in both arches is statistically larger in men than in women (p<0.05). New regression equation was formulated, the accuracy of which needs to be evaluated further in a larger sample. © Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research. All rights Reserved. Source

Among all neoplasms affecting head and neck region, salivary gland neoplasms are rare. Pleomorphic adenomas are the most common benign salivary gland tumours making up to 50% of major and minor salivary gland tumours. Intraorally pleomorphic adenoma is mostly found on palate and lips and very rarely in retromolar area. Here we are reporting a rare case of pleomorphic adenoma in right lower retromolar area in a 31-year-old female, the lesion was excised in toto with safety margins under local anaesthesia and postoperative follow up after six months didn’t showed any recurrence. © 2016, Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research. OBJECTIVE: To assess knowledge, attitudes and practices among the dental graduate in relation to healthcare ethics and law.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study design was employed using a self-administered questionnaire. A 15 item questionnaire about law and ethics was devised; tested and made available to all levels of graduates including teaching staff, postgraduates and intern at dental college in Bengaluru. A total of 116 graduates participated, with a response rate of 96.5% (n = 112).RESULTS: Seventy-six percent of the participants said that they are legally bound to treat all the patients who approach them for the treatment. Nearly 32% of the participants have mentioned the various other reasons for the rejection apart from the reason like HIV+, poor patients and patients with the contagious disease.CONCLUSION: The study points to the need for appropriate training among graduates including the professional staffs and other graduates, and to devise means to sensitize them to issues of law and ethics in the workplace. Orthodontic elastic bands are an important iatrogenic etiologic factor in the causation of periodontal attachment apparatus breakdown. Appropriate diagnosis and a well constructed treatment plan tailor-made to suit the requirements of the particular patient is imperative for management of periodontal lesions induced by subgingival retention of rubber band. There are conficting reports regarding the reattachment and regeneration of lost periodontal supporting tissues in such cases. The present case report highlights the spontaneous reversal and correction of periodontal destruction due to iatrogenic orthodontic elastic band displacement deep into the subgingival tissues. The term nevi constitute a hamartomatous growth of either skin or mucosa that is generally found at birth or shortly after birth. An epidermal nevus consisting chiefly of sebaceous glands is called as nevus sebaceous. Typically this entity is seen as a solitary bald patch over the scalp at birth. We report a case of exophytic lesion following blaschko's lines at birth. We find this case as peculiar because of the multiplicity of lesions, their pattern of distribution, as well as their atypical morphology. © 2015, Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research.
