Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR) is a highly contagious disease caused by the bovine herpesvirus-1. The main biological characteristic of herpesviruses is the establishment of latency in sensory ganglia, the animal remaining infected all their life. The objective of the present study was to describe the seroepidemiology aspects of BHV-1 infection on cattle farms from North-East of Romania. During 2011 to 2012, 1538 blood samples were collected from 87 cattle herds. In these herds serum samples were collected from cows, heifers and calves. A commercial gB ELISA test was used to analyze samples for antibodies against BHV1. The overall prevalence of IBR was found to be 36.02% (554 positive samples out of 1538) in cattle herds from North East of Romania. © Medwell Journals, 2013.

An experimental group formed out of 5 ewes, 3 months old, was inoculated subcutaneously (S.C.) with 0,2 ml Sintofolin/animal, and the other served as control group. After 30 days, the ovaries were harvested through oophorectomy for histopathological examination. There was a large number of atretic follicles in the harvested ovaries from the experimental group, and the primordial follicular store was reduced by 50%. We can observe that the hexestrol diacetate initiates and maintains the follicular atresia in young impuber sheep, with the drastic reduction of the folicullar store, compromising the female reproductively.

Morphological, both macroscopical (through inspection and dissection) and histological, investigations were conducted on male pikes captured in November and April in the Danube River. No morphological anomalies of the gonads were observed, nor significant histological modifications, in neither of the males taken into study. We can state that spermatogenesis took place in acceptable conditions, at least qualitatively, although the quantity of the deposited spermatozoa/season might have decreased. Although the Danube's water has a certain pollution degree, spermatogenesis in pike is not significantly influenced.
