5-Chloromethyl-8-quinolinol hydrochloride was condensed with 2-[(2,2-dichloroethyl)(4-(4-nitrophenoxy)benzyl)amino]ethanol in presence of potassium carbonate. The resulting 5-((2-((2,2-dichloroethyl)(4-(4-nitrophenoxy) benzyl)amino)ethoxy)methyl)quinolin-8-ol was characterized by elemental analysis and spectral studies. The transition metal chelates of this ligand were prepared with Cu 2+, Ni 2+, Co 2+, Mn 2+ and Zn 2+ and characterized by IR and electronic spectral studies and magnetic properties. The antimicrobial activity of ligand and its metal chelates were screened against various gram positive (+) and gram negative (-) organism. The results show that all these samples are more or less active agents against various organisms. Source

Cadmium oxide nanoparticles were synthesized in aqueous phase at 70°C using bovine serum albumin (BSA) as the capping agent. X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and Fourier transform infra red techniques were used to characterize CdO nanoparticles. The average particle sizes of CdO nanoparticles were found to be ~14 nm. The polarity of the BSA capped CdO nanoparticles was determined using gel electrophoresis technique. The synthesized CdO nanoparticles were used as photocatalyst for methylene blue degradation. The photodegrdation of methylene blue was optimized under different reaction conditions such as catalyst loading, dye concentration, temperature, and pH. Methylene blue dye was completely decolorized in 70 min of irradiation time. CdO nanoparticles were effectively used as antibacterial agent to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. © 2013 Balaban Desalination Publications. Source


Gliclazide(N-hexahydrocyclopentapyrrol-2-carbamoyl)-4- methylbenzenesulphonamide was used to synthesize Co(II),Sm(III) , Nd(III) complexes. Metal complxes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR,TGA. The crystal structure of complexes were further determined by X-ray diffraction method. The XRD data was used to calculate various parameters like crystal system, volume,density,porosity,particle size etc.which shows that the complexes of Co(II),Sm(III) and Nd(III) are octahedral structure. An attempt was made to assess the concentration of toxic metals in Bhoj Wetland (Upper lake) a Ramsar Site in India which is a major source of potable water catering the needs of about 1.4 million people of Bhopal. The main toxic metal namely chromium, zinc, cadmiutn, nickel, lead and manganese were analyzed during the period 2007-2008. Higher concentration of Heavy Metals was found in the month of March and September in most of the cases. Source

The resulting 5-((1-(2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)propan-2- yloxy)methyl)quinolin-8-ol was characterized by elemental analysis and spectral studies. The transition metal chelates of the same were prepared with Cu 2+, Ni 2+, Co 2+, Mn 2+ and Zn 2+ and characterized by IR and electronic spectral studies and magnetic properties.
