Fire and life safety engineers need to address several challenges explored during the development of the building in the Middle East such Burj Dubai, the tallest building in the world, which is directly connected to Dubai Mall. The team of engineers formulated an extensive emergency management plan that was integrated with the fire and life safety strategy before the building was constructed and handed over to the building operator. Diverse project teams in the Middle East often increase the level of expertise on a project due to the varying experiences, which also increases the need for coordination throughout each stage of the project. The fire protection design teams in the Middle East should express the importance of system commissioning to owners in the early phase so proper testing criteria can be implemented. The lack of a reliable water supply often requires additional on-site water storage that may be difficult to handle if not addressed early in the design phase.
