Tuberculosis (TB) remains to be an enormous global health problem. The inconsistent protection efficacy of Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) calls for new vaccines for TB. One choice to improve the efficacy of BCG vaccine is recombinant BCG (rBCG). Experimental evidences have revealed that Ag85B, ESAT-6 and Rv3620c are important immunodominant antigens of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In this study, we have constructed a novel rBCG expressing fusion protein Ag85B-ESAT6-Rv3620c and evaluated the immunogenicity of this rBCG in C57BL/6 mice. Results show that there is a strong TB-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes proliferation in mice immunized with this rBCG vaccine. A single dose immunization of rBCG could induce a significantly strong Th1 immune response characterized by an increasing ratio of antigen-specific IgG2b/IgG1 as well as a high expression level of Th1 cytokines such as IFN-γ, TNF-α and IL-2. This conclusion was confirmed by a decreased secretion of Th2 cytokine IL-10. Moreover, this rBCG induced a strong humoral response in mice with an increasing antigen-specific IgG titer. Therefore, we concluded that this rBCG could significantly increase both Th1 type cellular immune response and antigen-specific humoral response compared with BCG. The above observations demonstrated that rBCG::Ag85B-ESAT6-Rv3620c is a potential candidate vaccine against M. tuberculosis for further study. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd.

Typically, the selection of large aggregate particle size is mainly determined by the thickness of structures and the thickness of protective layer. The greater the aggregate diameter is, the smaller the specific surface is, and the smaller coating materials demand will be without specific requirements. It will affect the concrete flowability directly if there are too much big size of aggregates or the particle size is too big for forming a certain stable packing skeleton structure. The strength of the large diameter recycled self-compacting rock-fill concrete is low so that the primary cause of its failure mechanism is bond failure and bond slip in aggregate. Shear failure in aggregate is not easy to happen due to the strength of the aggregate is too low. For this reason, we put forward the general selection requirements for large diameter aggregate. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In this paper, we study the problem of distributed virtual backbone construction in sensor networks, where the coverage area of nodes are disks with different radii. This problem is modeled by the construction of a minimum connected dominating set (MCDS) in geometric k-disk graphs. We derive the size relationship of any maximal independent set (MIS) and MCDS in geometric k-disk graphs, and apply it to analyze the performances of two distributed connected dominating set (CDS) algorithms we propose in this paper. These algorithms have bounded performance ratio and low communication overhead. To the best of our knowledge, the results reported in this paper represent the state-of-the-art. The aerogel-type wood is prepared under crafts of dissolution of wood materials by 1 - propenyl -3- methylimidazolium ionic liquid and followed supercritical drying process. And then, cellulose fibers as supporting frame with incomplete three-dimensional cross-linked network are reformed after dissolution of aerogel-based timber. The reformed cellulose fibers possess microstructure that similar with light wood, stable chemical and physical properties, dry density of 0.221 g/cm3 and porosity over 87%. Additionally, the novel wood-based material achieved by green chemical treatment can continue to fix and store carbon absorbed during the growth stage of trees, and will also play a certain significance in areas of low-carbon and environmental protection. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
