A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a self configuring infrastructureless network of mobile nodes connected by wireless links. Hence, routing in this kind of networks is a great challenge. Ant Colony Optimization is an algorithm to solve problems like routing in MANETs based on food searching behavior of ants. AntHocNet [1] is based on ideas from Ant Colony Optimization. AntHocNet is a hybrid algorithm consisting of both reactive route set-up and proactive route maintenance. It does not maintain routes to all possible destinations at all times but it sets up paths when they are needed at the start of a data session. In this paper, performance evaluation of AntHocNet, AODV and DSR routing protocols is done using the simulator ns2.34. Simulation results demonstrate scalability of AntHocNet when compared to AODV and DSR i.e., AntHocNet performs better at high data rates and at large number of nodes. Its performance is low when compared to AODV and DSR at low data rates and at less number of nodes. © 2014 IEEE.

The electro-magnetic actuator presents a solution for most of the technical problems of the traditional mechanical bearings since it ensures the total levitation of a body in space eliminating any mechanical contact between the stator and the levitated body. In practice there is lot of difference between theoretical force and actual force developed between the stator and rotor of an actuator and it varies with air gap and current. This difference is mainly due to different losses in the system. In the present work a correction factor is introduced to account for different losses. A radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) has been implemented to estimate the correction factor and validated with experimental values. The RBF network has been used to estimate the actuator parameters namely force, position stiffness and current stiffness. The RBF predicted values have been validated with the experimental values. © Springer India 2016.

Integration testing of Complex Embedded systems (CES) and associated interconnection network has not been discussed much in the literature. This paper focuses on integration testing among Embedded Processing Components (EPCs) that are (loosely coupled) interconnected via I/O ports. This paper models EPC as a deterministic FSM and describes its fault model that captures errors in the interface between the Hardware and software. The EPC integration with rest of ES (or another EPC) can be viewed as a system under test (SUT) composed of two parts: EPC1 that requires integration testing with the other EPC2. This paper models EPC integration testing as a general fault localization problem [15] between Communicating FSM. An example shows that the integration testing of two subsystems is a subset of general fault diagnostic problem and the faulty machine can be identified during integration. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2011.

Ab initio calculations on ordered L21 structure of Fe 2VAl alloy have been carried out by introducing B2, DO3, A2' and XY-XZ type disorders in order to understand the role of anti-site disorder on magnetic and transport properties. These studies show an enhancement of individual spin moments of anti-site Fe atoms in DO3, A2' and XY-XZ type anti-site disorder, making the Fe2VAl alloy magnetically active. These calculations also show that hybridization due to covalent distribution of valance states among the atoms is important in Fe 2VAl, defining its unusual physical properties. From the density of states spectrum obtained near the Fermi level, we have noticed formation of intermediate defect-like states that couple the edges of the pseudo gap on both sides of the Fermi level, driving the material from semimetallic to metallic type in electrical transport. We also present experimental results on structural, magnetic and electrical properties of Fe2VAl Heusler alloy. A comparison of present experimental data with calculations shows an existence of DO3 type anti-site disorder due to the Al-deficiency in Fe2VAl alloy which causes deviations in theoretical results on the magnetic and transport behaviour of pure Fe2VAl. The temperature dependence of electrical transport and magnetic data analysed on the basis of impurity band model which provides convincing evidence for itinerant character of this alloy system with an antisite disorder. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) decorated with different ferrites have been synthesized and successfully used under heterogeneous conditions in the dehydration of fructose. In addition, inverse spinels, such as cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) and magnetite (Fe3O4), decorated on CNTs showed better performance than normal spinel such as zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4)-decorated CNTs. The catalyst could be easily recycled and the protocol was simple. Moreover, functionalized CNTs were characterized using various methods, including Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and Transmission Electron Microscope analysis. The crystallite size of CoFe2O4-decorated CNTs was nearly 20 nm. © The Royal Society of Chemistry and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique 2016.

Pulsed laser deposited 60 nm thin film of homogeneous Mn 0.82Bi0.18 composite has been irradiated by 100 MeV Au ions at fluence 1 × 1013 ions/cm2, and investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, magnetic hysteresis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and nanoindentation measurements. Dispersed nanostructures of soft Bi-rich phase of about 20 nm diameter emerged in a hard Mn-rich matrix on irradiation. Such structures, as synthesized by the present novel swift heavy ion irradiation approach, are usable as self-lubricating thin films. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Improvising selected tools from Kress and Van Leeuwen’s inter-semiosis framework, this study explores how, between global and local, TV commercials in India often reframe a cultural third space producing new discursive forms and identities. Three commercials from the food and beverage category are selected on the basis of the country of origin of the endorsing company and the patterns of glocalization. Multimodal discourse analysis reveals that the commercials construct the glocal identity in several ways. In the Knorr Soups commercial, the melody of the title song is contemporary pop, whereas the delivery style and crooning are distinctively Western. The language is predominantly Hindi with deft use of selected English words. The Funda Mint commercial casts a rebel voice-support executive who rejects the pseudo-glocal identity and asserts his true identity. In the Cadbury Bournvita Folk commercial, the two boys represent the global and the local in the realm of creativity. The study advances the knowledge of product positioning and brand identity involving the intersemiosis of discursive elements from different cultural spaces within the contemporary Indian consumerist culture. © 2016, © The Author(s) 2016.

The aim of this tutorial review is to highlight the potential application of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) in heterogeneous catalysis. The unique combination of the high reactivity of NHCs together with the ease of separation, purification and recyclability of the solid catalyst makes the heterogeneous system one of the most promising strategies for the synthesis of fine chemicals on an industrial scale. This tutorial review focuses on the most representative examples of this nascent research area and highlights recent achievements of NHCs in heterogeneous catalysis (other than metathesis reactions). We hope this serves as inspiration for further progress in this field. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2013.

Recently Space Shift Keying modulation(SSK) technique got attention in the world of wireless communications. To improve the performance of SSK systems few cooperative techniques are embedded in SSK systems. This paper presents Amplify and Forward scheme with Best relay selection in SSK systems. This proposed scheme,selects the Best relay based on available Signal to noise ratios at the destination. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed by finding the expression for Bit Error Rate(BER).Further more comparison on BER is taken by increasing the number of relays and placing at different positions like equal distance from source to destination, away from the source. Simulations have done to check the validity of analytical results. © 2015 IEEE.

Surface modification of nanomaterials is one of the rapidly growing research areas. Ferrite nanoparticles (inverse spinels) with an average diameter of about 14 nm were modified with various structurally divergent dicarboxylic acids. Successful surface modification allows them to prevent the nanoparticle aggregation. The modified materials showed good catalytic activity in the dehydration of fructose to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) under solvent free conditions for the first time. 5-HMF was synthesized in high yields under heterogeneous conditions. The flexible ligand-modified ferrites showed better catalytic activity than the rigid ligand-modified ferrites. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016.
