Investigated topoisomerase IIα (TopoIIα), argyrophilic proteins associated with nucleolar organizer regions (Ag-NOR) and antigen Ki-67 in lung adenocarcinoma. Defined tumor with low and high TopoIIα, Ag-NOR and Ki-67. TopoIIα had a relationship with clinical and morphological parameters (greatest dimension, tumor differentiation) and proliferation markers (Ag-NOR, Ki-67). Survival of patients with lung adenocarcinoma with low content of TopoIIα is better as compared with high content of TopoIIα. Survival of patients with lung adenocarcinoma depends on the mutual content of TopoIIα and clinical and morphological parameters (value T, greatest dimension, value N, stage, tumor differentiation), proliferation markers (Ag-NOR). TopoIIα content in lung adenocarcinoma is an independent prognostic factor. Mutual research of TopoIIα with clinical and morphological parameters and Ag-NOR has prognostic value in lung adenocarcinoma. Source

We studied hepatoprotective activity of betulonic acid and its alaninamide on the model of combined CCl 4- and ethanol-induced toxic liver damage in rats. The test substances, especially betulonic acid alaninamide, considerably reduced the elevated biochemical parameters in animals with toxic liver damage. Betulonic acid alaninamide also stimulated reparative processes in the liver (activated hepatocyte proliferation). Heptral (reference drug) produced no appreciable effects on the reparative processes. Our findings suggest that betulin derivatives exhibit pronounced protective properties. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media New York. Source

We studied ultrastructural reorganization of the colon transplant in delayed period after esophagoplasty. It was found that during functioning of the artificial esophagus, a complex of adaptive and pathologic processes occurs in the mucosa. Focal sclerosis of the mucosa and slight epithelial degeneration with hyperplasia and hypersecretion of goblet cells were found in biopsy specimens with stenosis of the anastomosis. In case of colonopathy of the transplant, more pronounced epithelial degeneration and proliferation accompanied by abundant polymorphocellular stromal infiltration were seen. Deformation of the transplant was characterized by progressive atrophic and sclerotic reorganization of the mucosa. Goblet cells with ultrastructural signs of hypersecretion predominated in the population of epithelial cells of the colon transplant; oligomucus and poorly differentiated cell and colonocytes with signs of alteration and degenerative changes in cytoplasmic organelles were also found. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc. We studied the peculiarities of lipid spectrum of the blood and structural reorganization of the myocardium in experimental hypercholesterolemia with and without hypothyroidism. It was found that alimentary hypercholesterolemia accompanied by elevated total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride concentrations led to a decrease in body weight, heart weight, number of cardiomyocytes in the heart and induced pronounced lytic changes in cardiomyocytes, circulation disorders (sludge syndrome, echinocytosis of erythrocytes, lymphostasis), diffuse fibrosis of the stroma, and appearance of foam cells among diffuse mononuclear infiltrate cells. The combination of hypercholesterolemia with hypothyroid status caused more pronounced changes in the lipid spectrum and atherogenic index and more pronounced lytic and necrobiotic changes in cardiomyocytes. These findings suggest that elevated cholesterol concentrations in the blood, especially against the background of suppressed thyroid function, can directly induce considerable damage to cardiomyocytes, intramural vessels, and erythrocytes without the development of myocardial ischemia and in the absence of atherosclerotic plaques. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York.
