The experiment was carried out in the region of the Central Balkan Mountains of Bulgaria during the 1998-2007 period. Possibilities for the use of organic fertilizers applied at the time of tree planting, in previously made trenches, were studied. The used fertilizers were obtained by composting manure and an apple waste product from apple processing. Mineralization of some major nutrients was observed and it was found that during 10 years, optimum levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and content of humus were maintained in the root system zone without need for corrections, by applying mineral fertilizers. The trees in all three treatments showed normal development and fruit-bearing.
